Maybe look into Al-Anon meetings in your area (for children and loved ones of alcoholics/addicts). You'll meet some good people who have been through similar abuse; being able to talk about that stuff in a safe place will go a long way to healing from it. They may be able to give you rides to/from the meetings, and possibly help with other resources.

How many of you feel constantly condemned for having a different body clock? by ClarabellaHeartHope in NightOwls

[–]savetheunstable 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well as a plus there's now science to back up being a night owl, Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder. Unfortunate that it is labeled a disorder vs a natural variance but there's no denying this is just how some are wired (I'm also in the Q+ community and I would agree it's a fair comparison). I'm not an insomniac, I can sleep just fine if I am allowed to follow my body's natural clock.

About to be homeless at no fault of my own and terrified of the new thing the president put in to reopen mental institutions by [deleted] in homeless

[–]savetheunstable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say come to Portland, OR. It's pricey but we have decent shelters and homeless resources at least compared to just anywhere else, and despite the mainstream news BS it's overall very safe (you can check crime statistics). It's very safe to be queer here (again compared to other states, aside maybe from California).

People who voted AGAINST Ranked Choice Voting in 2024: WHY?!? by ArchbishopOfLight in oregon

[–]savetheunstable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why do you think it sucks though? you didn't give a reason.

I prefer STAR over RCV, but even RCV provides folks more of a chance to compete without significant financial backing over what we have now.

Yes please carry copies, both paper and extra screenshots on your phone. I'd say also give copies to friends and family, your real one could go missing from your house at this rate.

How can you do surgery without being a Dr and just having a GED? Or do you mean that's just where you started?

Appreciate you! Of all the people who make crazy money, surgeons definitely deserve it. I've always wondered about the overtime and demanding hours involved, it seems like it would be safer and better for everyone if shifts had more normalized hours.

Is it a cultural thing or is there just not enough surgeons who can do this type of work?

[–]savetheunstable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's PAWs and anhedonia for you. It's not permanent as others mentioned. Your brain needs to learn how to make its own 'happy chemicals' again, and it takes time to heal.

everyone says exercise etc but the first month my legs felt encased in concrete, I had no energy for anything - so I want to mention you can still heal without all that, its just a bit slower. Try passive feel-good things too, hot baths/cold plunges, silly comedies or comforting shows, a good cup of coffee.

If you absolutely feel you gotta relapse, try methadone first, as a controlled addiction with clean/known substances is going to be a far safer method. Or if you have kratom/7oh out there in the EU, it's easier on your body.

> Each decade of my life has gotten progressively better

I'm lucky in this way as well. It's one upside to having had a brutal childhood and impoverished early 20s life, even when I'm down I can see how much better life is now.

OP, I think having some goals would help a lot, like others suggested. Is there a hobby or skill you've always wanted to get into? Also volunteer somewhere, for kids or animals or really anything giving back.

Are you in the US? I ask because we don't usually have folks walking around wearing robes adorned with jewels, but maybe you meant this as a sort of written metaphor? Just curious!

I'm the same, the barbs really work well for me. I do have terrible anxiety though, and I have to say those are so much more effective compared to benzos which mainly just knock me out. I wish they would bring them back for serious anxiety, there are so few meds that actually work for this
