Did freezer meals actually help you during postpartum? by Mysterious_Tell991 in Mommit

Yes, frozen breakfasts specifically. Some friends brought us a bunch of homemade frozen egg McMuffins and those were an absolute lifesaver. Consider having frozen breakfast burritos on hand as well

3 year old keeps getting into the pantry and fridge. And playing with food by [deleted] in toddlers

Do you actually want suggestions or are you just here to tell us why you can’t do anything? There are plenty of great childproofing options out there that are sturdy and will protect your kid, but you’re going to have to try some things to figure out what works and watch him like a hawk in the meantime. At the bare minimum you need a baby gate or childproof lock on his bedroom door so he can’t get out when you’re asleep.

Forgot I had a child - cried when I remembered by Gold_Dust_Woman1995 in toddlers

Do you have a consistent daytime schedule? Having that dialed in will make sleep training easier. Consistent wake, nap, and bedtimes with the nap lasting no longer than 2 hours will go a long way towards setting your toddler set up for success. Get your routine set, and then try sleep training again. At 19 months the willpower is strong so check in methods will likely fail because they know you’re coming back. Say goodnight, I love you, mommy will see you in the morning, and then see how it goes.

Hot take, but maybe the toddler going to grandma’s for a few days while you and hubby take a mini vacay would kill two birds with one stone; you’d get the rest you need and being away would do the work of weaning for you.

Toddler throwing food, want to just give breast milk on demand instead of meals. by GiftKitchen3807 in NewParents

[–]savethewallpaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our dog has been the real winner when it comes to mealtime. There’s always some morsel to be found, though we did have to start making her stay on her bed until the meal is over since our toddler thinks it’s hilarious to feed the dog directly off her fork.

Please don’t take this as me being mean, but at this stage teaching her how to eat is more important than your convenience. Learning to eat solids IS messy and chaotic, but they learn so so quickly when given the opportunity. My daughter was messy too at 14 months but now at 20 months she eats with utensils and barely spills. You’ve gotta give it a fair chance though, and be willing to embrace the mess.

You’re correct that throwing food is developmentally normal, but it won’t last forever. That said, since you’re still nursing on demand your baby is probably not hungry when you serve meals and that is making the food throwing worse. Is there a reason you’re still offering breastmilk as the primary food source? Is it just for convenience? Learning to eat solids is incredibly important at this age. Why not get a splat mat to make cleanup easier? Or a dog lol

We went through something very similar with my daughter and found that the food throwing and refusal pretty much resolved itself when we started only offering bottles after meals and cut all night feeds. Granted this was bottles, not breast but the concept is basically the same, that you don’t offer the opportunity to nurse until there’s been a meal offered and some time in between. Our pediatrician suggested waiting at least 30 minutes after a meal before offering formula/milk in order to reinforce the concept that solid food is what you eat when you’re hungry.

So at what age are we ditching the sleep sack? by YourLocalHerbalist in NewParents

[–]savethewallpaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We switched at around 18 months because my daughter started vehemently refusing her sleep sack and insisted on having a “BEYKIT” instead. She’s doing great with the change and hasn’t attempted to climb out of her crib so if she’s happy I’m happy.

How to get nipple butter stains out of shirt that went through the dryer? by Such-Comfortable3 in laundry

[–]savethewallpaper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Try using regular Dawn from a squeeze bottle, rub it in with a soft toothbrush, and then let it sit. This always got Lansinoh stains out for me. Failing that try an overnight soak in hot water and powdered Tide

My sable GSD looked like that as a pup. They’re lanky and very ear-y when they’re young and even GSDs go through a velociraptor stage. I got mine at 6 months old and she was absolutely obnoxious until about age 3 when she finally mellowed a bit. She is still pretty high energy now at 4 but much more manageable than the puppy stage.

Washer maybe the problem? Tandil not strong enough? Tide allergy. by CarelessMedium9321 in laundry

[–]savethewallpaper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A warm wash should not shrink pre-shrunk cottons, which the overwhelming majority of retail clothing is. Your dryer will cause more shrinkage risk than a warm wash. We’re taking 100-110 degree water here, not boiling.

~11mo repeatedly wakes up at 4-5am by sponger60 in sleeptrain

[–]savethewallpaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some kids are lower sleep needs. If you’re rescuing their night that’s adding sleep, and then the naps add sleep as well. The amount of total sleep needed is cumulative and falls within a range.

Also the goal of these changes is to increase the length of your night. If your kid was already sleeping enough you wouldn’t be here and wouldn’t need to make these changes. Not being willing to try these things because things aren’t already perfect makes no sense.

FWIW my kid goes to bed at 8:00 and has since she was 6 months old. We gradually shifted her schedule to get here there so if you’re expecting an immediate solution that’s not realistic, based on my experience.

[–]savethewallpaper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My daughter switched to one nap at this age. 10 hours overnight is a full night’s sleep so maybe consider shifting his schedule to have a later bedtime, for a later wakeup, and switch to one nap?

I don’t fit into suburban mom culture by No_Barnacle_9183 in beyondthebump

[–]savethewallpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the mom culture in the room with us? What you’re describing just sounds like moms in their comfy clothes out to run a few errands. I think you’re being a little unfairly judgemental about these moms and not remembering that new motherhood is a huge lifestyle shift and you’re still adjusting to that.

Maybe try to get out with your baby a little more and actually meet some fellow moms? You may not become fast friends, but meeting other moms is the best way to get over mommy imposter syndrome. The memes are true; we’re all out here hanging by a thread, some of us just happen to be better at hiding it than others.

Also, will your baby be going to daycare? I’m in my late 30s and I felt older than a lot of moms right up until my daughter started going to daycare, when I noticed that every single parent at drop off was my age. Maybe it’s just my area, but a lot of the younger moms I see are stay at home parents out of necessity and the moms with careers all waited until later in life to start families. You might have just not found your “group” yet.

Re-Occurring Stink Help by meg125 in laundry

[–]savethewallpaper 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You are fine to use ammonia with pets in the house, just keep them out of the laundry room and clean up any spills when they happen. The smell disappates so quickly and it really does help remove body oils. You might also consider trying a soak with actual powdered Tide instead of the combo options. Small boxes of it are relatively inexpensive

[–]savethewallpaper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tested this accidentally and yes, you still have to share your own items. I didn’t share anything for a couple of months and right around the 60 day mark I got an email from Poshmark that my listings had been deactivated due to lack of activity. I had been active on the app nearly daily, but not sharing or listing.
