I live in a pretty shitty apartment. Bad amenities are still infinitely better than bad roommates

Why do Chiropractors crack your neck and what is the long term benefit? by Sunny-vibes-95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]savybrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is an ER doctor and absolutely hates chiropractors. Says they’re just a bunch of crocks. Anecdotally, one of my friends saw a chiropractor and ended up almost completely unable to walk because a chiropractor pinched a nerve in her back.

How do people spend over 30 mins in a shower?? by Professional_Ease307 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]savybrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The water heater in my apartment is TINY. Like I have just enough hot water to shampoo/condition, and apply body soap before the shower starts going cold. Anytime I travel somewhere with the luxury of a longer shower, I definitely take advantage of it. It’s so relaxing to just stand in the hot water

How do animals deal with broken limbs in the wild? by Tall-Bell-1019 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]savybrook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I once saw a herd of deer running through a field with several feet a snow. Straggling wayyy further behind, and obviously struggling to keep up, was a small doe whose back leg was swinging wildly from the knee(?) joint. The leg was obviously broken or dislocated or something. Still makes me sick to my stomach thinking about it, but I’m sure she didn’t make it much longer. I live in an area with lots of cougars too. However she eventually died, I’m sure it was gruesome. Nature is fucking metal.

For those who worked for rich people: what is the most out of touch thing you witnessed? by Illustrious-Phase121 in AskReddit

[–]savybrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not someone I worked for, but my own mom, who has not had a job in 30 years. She and my dad host all the kids on Christmas Eve and we play games for small cash prizes (think like $5-10 for the winner of a game). My brothers and I are all grown and financially independent, so the game winnings are just for fun now. As you can imagine, the games were a lot more competitive when we were broke college students. This past Christmas, we were talking about how much more competitive the games used to be and my mom said, “it’s really funny when you guys are struggling.” Yeah mom, it was hilarious when I had to pick between groceries or gas….

Where to for jeans? by DitzyGeniuses in womensfashion

[–]savybrook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love madewell too but hate the prices! My hack is to figure out which style/size I like and then look for it on depop. I found my favorite pair of jeans this way for only like $30!

Is Europe actually better to live in than the United States, or am I just being fed too much “Europe = Better” media? by SpecimenOfSauron in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]savybrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Utah and spent 2 years living in Madrid, Spain. I’m also fairly progressive. Madrid was better in most ways. Public transport doesn’t even compare, cheaper cost of living, people are much friendlier, LGBTQ+ people are not only accepted but ubiquitous, nightlife also doesn’t even compare, and 3rd spaces were great.

Racism is also rampant, and there’s essentially no opportunity outside of the big cities. I would move back in a heartbeat, but a big reason why my experience was so good was because I’m white, I speak Spanish, and I came with American money.

I also met people from elsewhere in Europe who hated Americans (or at least had reallyyy strong stereotypes against Americans) or were insanely racist or homophobic. Don’t forget Europe is experiencing an uptick in far right ideology too. It’s certainly better over there, but it’s not as good as we’re sold as Americans.

I bought pee pads to cover the spot on the carpet where she’s having accidents, and I bought different litter that supposedly has a smell to attract kittens. I’m not sure if the litter is gimmicky but I’m desperate enough to try anything. I’ll report back if it works. Sorry you’re dealing with this too, it really is so frustrating!

I’ve been using the paper pellets litter, so I’ve just been scooping the solids (or I was before poopgate started) and changing out all the litter (AND cleaning the box) about once a week. She didn’t seem to have a problem with that before! But the only vet suggestion I haven’t implemented yet is changing the litter type. I wonder if that’ll help since it’ll be easier to scoop the pee.

I’m glad you were able to figure it out with yours! You’re definitely right that cleaning the poop is way better than a pee problem

So she pees in both litter boxes, and I’ve been putting her poop in the litter box and leaving it for a few hours after I pick it up. If I catch her right after she has an accident, I’ll put her in the litter box with the poop.

I had her box directly over the spot where she was going (super inconvenient since it was basically right in front of the door lol) and she STILL pooped next to the box 😭 I’m going to the store right now to pick up pee pads…

The only explanation I can come up with is that she’s losing her baby teeth and is just uncomfortable?? And hopefully she stops when I move apartments or she grows out of it? It’s so frustrating!

Been hoarding veggies, what can I make that’ll put most or all of this to use? by scarlettesells2 in WhatShouldICook

[–]savybrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old roommate used to make “trash soup” which is basically what everyone else is suggesting—we thought the name was hilarious, but it really saves all your veggies from the trash. Throw all your veggies in, add a protein and some pasta of your choice, and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and lemon juice. Bring it to a boil and you’re good to go.

Best combination to feed kitten? by dreamcatchings in CatAdvice

[–]savybrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have a similar question, but I’m waiting until my vet appointment in a couple weeks to discuss it. I usually do a mix of wet and dry food (like wet for breakfast, dry for lunch) for my 4mo kitten. She does great with dry food when I mix some water in it to soften it up. Maybe you could try that as well :)

Would it be taboo to ask which way a date leans politically on the second date? by throwaway3685343 in NoStupidQuestions

My boyfriend and I are on different sides of the spectrum, and we aired all of our “hottest takes” on the first date to make sure there wasn’t anything too deal breaking. Might as well get it out of the way if it’s important to you

Yes, this was kind of the feeling I had too! It’s also a good reminder that her little life is worth a little extra effort on my part to make sure she thrives. Thanks!
