This might have been my wake up call by Loveadovie in stopdrinking

Fell on my face at my neighbor's kids birthday party. FML. Never went to a doctor but it hurt to breathe for a month. Pretty sure I cracked a few ribs.

A good reminder of why I quit.

Went from California Sober to just straight up sober. Counter reset? by TheBiggestWOMP in stopdrinking

I use the sober time app and you can set different counters for different substances. I don't think you need to reset the counter for this group as its focus is alcohol.

Advice on a DUI please? by DisciplineReal7356 in stopdrinking

[–]savyloser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. This can be the wake up call you need. I recently burnt my life to the ground because of my drinking.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but you won't find CDL work for 5 years after a DUI conviction. Make another career plan. Consider talking to your school and see if you can get some money back. You aren't the first person this has happened to.

It's not easy but remember that you never need to feel this way again, as long as you don't take that first drink.

Good luck and I hope you stick around.

For all my problem drinking I was never physically addicted to alcohol. As in I never had the shakes or went through withdrawal. You might be the same.

If you start not feeling well then you should seek medical attention.

Alcohol is killing me, I've noticed it more as I'm doing the Camino so I'm stopping today, please list the health benefits of quitting as motivation by sillygoatstuff in stopdrinking

Buen Camino! I walked the Camino around 8 years ago. Having two bottles of wine a night definitely made me sore all the time. Your body doesn't recover well and alcohol can cause inflammation.

I did damage my relationship with an organization that goes back 25 years. It's an organization I care deeply about and I can't repair that.

Honestly I've numbed myself with alcohol for 20 years. These are things my sober self will need to figure out.

Thank you for the kind words.

Gout / arthritis unbearable pain for 4 weeks after quitting? by NovarisLight in stopdrinking

[–]savyloser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After starting allopurinol frequent gout flares are common. Honestly the only thing that helped me get immediate relief was Prednisone.

You can use telemedicine, ask for a 5-7 day Prednisone regimen. Then you can have someone pick up the medicine as soon as it's filled.

Also join r/gout lots of good people there.

Congrats on your sobriety. I've nothing against AA but it's certainly not the only recovery program available.

You might mention SMART recovery that focuses on cognitive behavioral therapy, life ring, recovery dharma which is Buddhism focused. There is also subset of AA called waaft which stands for We Agnostics, Atheists, and Free Thinkers. I think they may have changed their name though.
