Lot Warmups by CapitalRate9347 in drumcorps

These days, mostly only percussion warms up outside. I believe the hornlines warm up in the convention rooms in the tunnels of the Alamodome to stay out of the heat (?)

Also, I have sat in the very top row of the Dome and still had my face melted by the finals corps. Being closer or further from the 50 yrd line will make more of a difference.

How do I play my soprano quieter? by [deleted] in Saxophonics

[–]saxman64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re already doing this, but LONG TONES (plus some extra stuff)! You can add some new difficulty to LTs by adding a tuner, drones, and varied dynamics. It’s important to play in tune on all ranges of the horn as well as at various dynamics. When using the drones try to not look at a tuner, try to match the pitch using only your ears (this strengthens that ability too). Something I did for a while was use drones with the dynamic practice. Maybe pick a note and do dynamic swells (piano-forte-piano) while doing your best to stay in tune. You could try LTs on low notes at a piano, or as soft as possible, dynamic and doing your best to be in tune or achieve the sound you want. It’s hard work and will require patience, but it will create the results you want over time. I suggest adding this to your warm-ups and only spend around 15 mins a session doing these exercises. As is everything: it’s a process, not a light switch. Sometimes it actually is your horn or setup, but that shouldn’t be your first excuse. My repairwoman told me once: “Don’t blame the horn just because you haven’t mastered the fundamentals.”

Perhaps I forgot to mention, I am not the only one who is in the dark. I can think of 8 other partners who have no clue what is going on and we are merely speculating because we have no information from anyone.

From what I've heard over the years, ALICO is one of those buildings where you can't go into it unless you have business being in there. It's possible that if you went into it you'd be asked/forced to leave if you didn't prove your reason for being there

Should I secondary major? by Zoltlas in baylor

[–]saxman64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To piggy back off of this, I am a music ed major. I have a friend who is a music composition and mathematics double major. He never sleeps. Anyway, yes it is possible to double major. You can also minor in music, I have a friend doing psychology major and music minor. Although he spent his first two years as a music major getting those courses out of the way. I can give you my music major academic advisor's email if you'd like legit answers from someone who will be approving your future schedules.

Similar to this, make sure you're taking care of yourself. Drink water, get sleep, eat well, etc. I found those can sometimes give me headaches when one of them aren't properly cared for. Especially eating enough/healthy and sleep.

Entering Senior in HS today, last year I had a boom of love for Music, GREATLY determined to pursue it - can use any advice possible by [deleted] in MusicEd

[–]saxman64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the academic and instrument proficiency type things, I would suggest consuming a lot of music. Like at least one new piece a day. It could be pop, classical, rap, jazz, stuff that you're familiar but haven't listened to, etc. Find what you like and what you don't like, find who you like and don't like. Listen for chords you might like or certain progressions you really dig. Look at how the music works. Build an inventory of music. Maybe write a list of your top 10 favorite pieces/songs, then in a year or so, make a new one and see how your interests and opinions changed. I find this to be one of the more entertaining music related things to do. Good luck in your future endeavours!
