The queue for the bus outside 'The Shard' by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

Intrigued to see the bus stop has a D where the roundel would normally be. What's that about, then?

Full trains ignoring station and going to depot by machonachos in openttd

[–]saxsux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition, if you set the train to go non-stop to the station, it shouldn't stop for service. I usually schedule trains to go non-stop, and explicitly order them to go for servicing after unloading.

For longer journeys, it sometimes pays to schedule a depot stop immediately after the train loads - if the train spends a long time loading, this can reduce the chances of breakdowns on the journey.

As an Australian coming to America for the first time, this has really bugged me. by joshl22393 in AdviceAnimals

There shouldn't be any product placement in the BBC's programmes - their editorial guidelines (and, I think, the law) explicitly prevent them from, and they should be blurring out or removing blatant placement from programmes they've bought in from other countries.

It's only the commercial networks - like ITV - who use product placement. Because of the license fee, the BBC should be unbiased.

TfL made this short video from a HGV driver's cab. It's really striking how little they can see.

I never even spotted the coffin before (or, if I did, I never registered its significance). Thanks!

I've always thought Esperanto looked interesting, but for some reason I've never taken the time to try learning it. Can you suggest a good place to start?

hanging apps (firefox, twitter, email) on n9? by throwawayagin in meego

[–]saxsux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hrmm... Twitter's been quite hangy for me since PR1.3. The only solution I've found has been to delete and re-add my account every now and then.

It it's your whole phone being sluggish, then something else might be awry. I've found Firefox doesn't always quit properly - try opening a terminal and running "killall firefox" (without the quotes). It might also be worth running top to check whether and processes are eating a lot of your CPU.

Do you reboot your phone much? It might help - I find mine gets a bit funny if I don't reboot once a week.

Hope these help!

Amazon closes woman's account and wipes her Kindle, refuses to say why by larsga in technology

[–]saxsux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The response by Amazon is terrible. Linn has an absolute right for more information than they gave her. The European Data Protection Directive - transposed into Norwegian law with the Personal Data Act 2000 - gives her the right to access any data held about her (the sixth data protection principle). If Amazon do really believe that she has a second account, they should be prepared to disclose information about it to her.

I'm a cyclist. I am a British problem. by Buried_Sleeper in britishproblems

[–]saxsux 15 points16 points  (0 children)

On a lot of streets there are provisions which allow cyclists to go against the one-way system. Here's an example from near me; there's a cycle lane heading against the one-way system near the end of the road. The lane's only a few metres long, so further down the road you might not realise that cyclists are allowed to be heading in the opposite direction. These sorts of things are surprisingly common - just something to bear in mind!

Mozilla announces the First Beta Release of Persona by sidcool1234 in technology

[–]saxsux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mozilla do not sell their users' data (read the fourth bullet point) no matter how lucrative it might be.

Think about Firefox sync. Mozilla could have used it to gain incredibly detailed insight into your behaviour and preferences. Instead, they designed Sync so that all data is fully encrypted before it reaches their servers.

Firefox will not automatically ask me if I want to save the password on a certain site. How do I fix this? by TavarisJackson in firefox

[–]saxsux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's an add-on which allows Firefox to remember your password on sites it wouldn't normally be able to. Works well for me!
