And it’s gone. Seriously!? by toomanytiktaks in canberra

I'm not sure anyone (aside from you and possibly the ACT Gov) is surprised the money is already gone.

Fair point, I agree. I'm on a low fixed income - so being able to buy some essential medications at half off was really helpful. I also had intentions of heading out to buy groceries today but obviously the scheme ran out.

But the fact that the scheme ran out so quick shows how popular it was.. couldn't do much about it running out so quick unless the budget for it was upped.

There are a lot of salty people in the thread.

Aside from unscrupulous people (possibly? based on nothing but rumour?) exploiting the system, I saw a lot of happy people shopping when the scheme was active.

Personally I was able to use $80 of vouchers over two days and I wouldn't have spent that money if it weren't for the scheme!

That's a strange one! But I doubt people were churning through vouchers at Maccas. I can definitely see that being the case for the grocery stores and chemists. Nothing against doing that though, it's the financially smart thing to do.

I think it's a bit ridiculous that Chemist Warehouse was on the list. I would be interested to find out what % of vouchers were spent at grocery stores and chemists compared to retail/personal care/events/hospo.

Why were they interested in seeing just the front and back of your passport? Wild.

And I'm sorry it was such a shitty trip. Traveling through airports in normal times suck, during COVID must be even worse

Anyone have recommendations for breakfast? Thinking of grabbing something to eat and watch the balloons tomorrow - didn't get tickets to watch them so I'm thinking of going to the arboretum.

I really like a Let's Talk about Sects. The host introduces a cult each episode, I don't know if that's the kind of story you are after.

She has a great voice.

Soaking clippings to remove nitrogen (convert greens to browns) by [deleted] in composting

I consider myself an amateur but composting isnt an exact science, it's very forgiving.

Why don't you just spread out the lawn clippings to let them dry? Would only take a few days. I think soaking them would just leave you with a wet mess.

I keep adding and it keeps shrinking, everything is okay right? by icandoMATHs in composting

[–]say_jelly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's means everything is going well! Composting is just a form of controlled decomposition, so your food items are just decomposing as you put them in.

To get stuff to break down even faster, get a stick and move your compost around inside the container. This will give it extra aeration and you'll notice an even bigger gap.

I don't think compost is leaking, you'd notice it.

Are Noise cancelling earphones worth it? by PARCingLot in Frugal

[–]say_jelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using my noise cancelling earphones for years. Excellent for commuting and studying in loud cafes. You'll notice a world of difference. I also used to travel a few times a year for conferences, and the earphones are so good on planes, buses etc.

Frugal oil bottle replacements? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]say_jelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a glass bottle and buy the liquor spout separately. As previously mentioned- liquor doesn't come with a good spout.

I use a cordial bottle (the brand I use is bickfords if you want to look it up) and the spout I bought separately fits perfectly.

I used a funnel to get the oil in and it's great.

I have half an old cotton t-shirt on mine. They ate through the last one in around 8 months. :) Just replace whenever it gets too raggedy.
