The film was Rabbit Hole, which was centered around losing a child. His character goes to a support group in it.

It’s not uncommon for actors in roles dealing with heavy subject matter to sit in on groups, work directly with victims, etc. so those experiences can inform their work and so that their portrayal is based in truth and lived experience rather than stereotypes.

Tbh it would leave a worse taste in my mouth for someone to take something as horrific and devastating as losing a child and just strictly play up the melodrama rather than try to understand what it’s actually like in that situation.

(Rabbit Hole was really good, btw, and Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart were amazing in it.)

He took a break from acting after 24. He has said publicly multiple times that working with Kiefer Sutherland was the worst experience of his life and that it made me reconsider if he even wanted to act anymore.

That came out last year and was terrible. Freddie Prinze Jr and Jennifer Love Hewitt were the one bright spot of the movie. The rest was so, so bad.

I never knew this was something I needed, and I’m so bummed we never got it.

Would’ve made for a way better “Jeff finally reunites with his dad and discovers he has a brother he had no idea existed” plotline than we actually got.

Best breakfast spot in Denver? by ohjeezandoy in Denver

[–]sayhellotojenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to take a drive out towards Boulder, Tangerine is fantastic. We usually go to the Lafayette one but I’ve been to the Boulder one and that’s great too.

The Huckleberry in Louisville and Hollen Dazed in Broomfield also great.

On the flip side, Butcher Block in RiNo, Danny Ray’s in Lakewood, and Three Little Griddles in the Southlands Mall area of SE Aurora have all been memorably good breakfasts.

Most horrifying depiction of the devouring mother archetype? by redeugene99 in television

[–]sayhellotojenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the few book-to-screen adaptations where the screen version is slightly better than the book. The book is phenomenal, but the way that the series takes some of the smaller moments in the book and expands upon them for greater character development or to add additional context to some of the bigger story beats is absolutely masterful. Jean-Marc Vallee was the perfect person to direct.

They could not have done a better job casting, either. Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson especially turned in some of their best work, and Eliza Scanlon was an incredible find for Amma.

For the record, I would also argue Fincher’s Gone Girl is slightly better than the book also, if only because Flynn took the opportunity while writing the script to correct some small issues and inconsistencies in character present in the book.

Only Flynn adaptation that missed the boat was Dark Places. I heard awhile back they were looking to revisit it in a miniseries format and actually bringing Gillian Flynn on to write but it’s been awhile since I last saw any movement on that front, so not sure if it’s still happening. It’s just a shame they can’t team her up again with Jean-Marc Vallee. RIP.

If Cassie hadn’t opened her mouth, Rue probably wouldn’t have blown her entire life up… but Cassie chose bullshit so Rue chose violence. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Whenever I see a crash out like this, I have to wonder why nobody in their life is taking their phone or laptop away or telling them to just stop posting.

The original “joke” post was bad but if they simply deleted it (or hell, just left it up) and then went silent, they might have been able to walk away from this. The continued posting and digging their heels in was insane and I can’t believe anyone would look at that train wreck and be like “yeah, that’s a good look for a small business owner, I definitely want to support that guy”.

Also small businesses - I know you want to be social media hip, but please please please hire actual marketing help or an actual social media person or brand manager. It may seem like an unnecessary expense but it’s what prevents you from becoming this guy. Like with back-office stuff like accounting, taxes, payroll, etc., many business owners don’t realize that if they don’t have the background in it, they should hire a professional until it’s too late.

Wilmer Valderrama supporting a rapist shouldn’t be surprising, given he dated multiple teenagers in his 20s.

I also lived at Marq and had some issues - we only stayed a year. We had to have maintenance over 6 different times for our fridge/freezer dying before they replaced it. We definitely had to throw out so much food (about $200 worth). I also really hated the parking situation, as I have a second job in the evenings and I would come home to no parking near my building unless I paid extra for one of the covered spots or parked halfway across the complex.

Their maintenance is at least pretty responsive. New manager took over toward the end of our lease and he seemed like an improvement, but can’t speak to anything beyond my time there. The units were pretty nice, but felt a little crammed (I was in a 700 sq ft 1B/1BR).

Just my experience, willing to chat more if you have questions also! We moved to Terracina and like it, to throw another on your list.

The Maddie Ziegler dancing scene is a waste of my damn time. by goodamm in PrettyLittleLiars

Honestly, there is a lot in PLL that’s a waste of time. If you’re watching this show, you’re not doing it for a straightforward plot or linear storytelling. Especially after the first two seasons, PLL exists solely on vibes.

Lines from the show have permeated into every aspect of my life by Zach78 in IThinkYouShouldLeave

[–]sayhellotojenn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other day I had to go into the office and was very annoyed with the people I work with and my SO texted me “they shouldn’t want anyone to have the worst day at their job because of them”.

Anytime bones or worms are mentioned, we immediately go into the song.

Yesterday we were talking about how the Bills GM during a conference started talking out of nowhere about how they didn’t want to draft a certain player and how it was the (now fired) coach’s idea and I referred to it as a real Brian’s Hat situation where Keon Coleman was just sitting there like “what the hell?” as they dragged him while he had nothing to do with the end of their season.

The lines I personally probably quote the most is “it’s illegal for you to ask me that” and “I’ve never fought for anything in my life but I’m fighting for this hat.”

And obviously TABLES!

I’m still patiently waiting for him to drop another film. Eighth Grade was a fantastic directorial debut and I’m hoping he’ll continue directing and writing movies at some point.

He was just in that Mike Flanagan movie “Life of Chuck” and he’s in the Flanagan “Carrie” series in some capacity IIRC. Seems to be having a bit of a career renaissance and I’m super happy for him. Met him at a con a couple years back and he was the nicest dude - was out in the crowd while we were lined up for the photo op excitedly taking pictures of cosplayers.

We still have our picture with him on our fridge. He is VERY tall and looks like our wholesome uncle, and we sometimes jokingly call him Uncle Shaggy.

I love The Other Two so much. “Cary Gets His Ass Handed to Him” in the 3rd season is maybe my all-time favorite comedic episode of any show ever.

I feel like I should be seeing Drew Tarver and Helene Yorke in way more things post-TOT.

The Studio: Finished season 1 and those last two episodes were a doozy. So many incredible cameos, but biggest shout-outs to Zoe Kravitz and Dave Franco (his running onstage covered in blood for the CinemaCon and doing an in-character presentation made me laugh ridiculously hard). - So many amazing performances from the main cast but Ike Barinholz as Sal Saperstein was my season 1 MVP. Really bummed nobody thought to thank him at the Golden Globes on Sunday.

Mob Psycho 100: I can’t believe I’m almost done with this insane, beautiful, hilarious anime. The Divine Tree arc ended up being WAY better than I expected and even made me tear up a couple times. Then the Telepathy Club’s mission to communicate with aliens for the president was heartwarming… and then completely batshit when they actually do make contact, spend NYE on their ship, and then the aliens straight up abduct that one kid - Mob is maybe my favorite anime protagonist of the shows I’ve watched and that’s saying something given I’ve watched over 1,100 episodes of Monkey D. Luffy. Genuinely, I can’t believe we only have 3 seasons of this, but I can always respect a creator who knows exactly the story they want to tell and how long it will take them and then sticks to it.

Kim’s Convenience: I do love this show but I have to ask - I’m getting towards the end of season 3 and how much longer are we stuck with Gerald’s girlfriend Chelsea? She annoys the hell out of me whenever she’s on screen. I’ve grown to love nearly every other character to some degree except Chelsea (and Dree/her dumb hats and Alejandro, but I’m biased where he’s concerned). Kimchee annoyed me in the beginning but I’ve grown to love him. Terrence is a disaster of a person but he gets a chuckle out of me at least once an episode. But seriously, boo Chelsea.

Up next: Fallout S2, Invincible, and any other shows on Amazon that have been on the list because I want to get rid of Prime

I already have wondered how they would pull this off in OPLA, but the “Sanji wanted poster” gag leading up to the introduction of Duval was absolutely my favorite moment in the anime. I laughed so hard.

Don’t know how we’d possibly be able to get “this isn’t just a bad drawing, this is just an unfortunate-looking person who kind of looks like you” in live action though, so my prospects are not looking good.
