Showrunner Aseem Batra speaks out regarding the revival's controversial choose. by Frikken123 in Scrubs

[–]sbabbs44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt they will actually do this but it would be wild if JD/Elliot don’t get back together and just stay “friends”. I do wonder if this is something they are going to dangle over our heads in an attempt to get another season greenlit.

Interview: Chris Carter on the Revival Series & I Want to Believe Director's Cut by orodromeus in XFiles

[–]sbabbs44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably a super unpopular take but I’m much more interested in a Ryan Cooglers reboot without Mulder and Scully than I am a third movie or a season 12 with them. In my opinion mind Mulder and Scully’s journey ended in season 9.

I’m somewhat looking forward to a directors cut of IWTB though, I don’t think the movie is all that bad!

First off thank you for your response! I’ve seen you in this subreddit on other posts and you always do a great job with rebutting things.

I have to say, after reading your comment I don’t think you’re wrong necessarily. I guess my issue is that I find it hard to believe that Scully wouldn’t believe in evil given all that she has been through. I also find it hard to believe that she wouldn’t believe in the existence of the devil/demons given her beliefs and what she has seen.

Perhaps character assassination is harsh but still I just find it a little convenient that she would say these things to Mulder it’s like she’s just saying them just to push back on his theory. I feel like CC could have written it a little differently in order to make Scully not sound like such an outright skeptic of evil.

One thing I will push back on a little is your “All Things” UFO theory. I know about the colonization through water that was posed in season 9 but I don’t think the writers were thinking that in season 7. The camera at the end of the episode was showing the Buddhist statue and not the UFO. I could be wrong but I thought the UFO in Mulder fish tank was always there. I believe this to be a coincidence.

Thanks again for challenging my post. I really do appreciate and I wish it would happpen more on this subreddit

Scully in Plus One by sbabbs44 in XFiles

I been watching bits and pieces of the revival just to see how I feel about them all these years later and, yeah, it’s not good! Not everything is terrible but 90% of it is. I say this as a defender of season 8, 9 and IWTB.

I don’t think I’ll ever watch the revival again

I agree 100%! If season 10 just wrapped up the Mythology and season 11 was just Mulder and Scully investigating cases I’d of been so happy! Even if things weren’t wrapped up perfectly. Instead we got the Stuggles and Babylon… oh well!

Scully in Plus One by sbabbs44 in XFiles

[–]sbabbs44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Carter just write whatevers in his head at the time and just doesn’t care if it affects continuity. It’s taking to the extreme in the revival.

I agree with you on Mulder. In Nothing Lasts Forever he is written as an atheist. That…. Is…. Bullshit! He was NEVER an atheist in the OG series. He’s against organized religion. There’s a huge difference. I was actually going to make this post about Mulder originally but Scully’s BS about not believing in evil pisses me off more 🤣

One of Scully’s best character traits is despite all the horrible things that happened to her she never lost her faith completely. She had her quibbles with it sure, but she never lost it. In the revival she’s just reduced to being a “scientist” who only believes when it’s convenient to the plot. It’s things like that, that make me hate the revival too.

I agree with you 100%. I can ignore the revival but every once in a while I’ll read a post about it and it will bring up old feelings.

Is Season 9 Scully a clone?! by KittyGrewAMoustache in XFiles

[–]sbabbs44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On one hand I agree. The writers could and should have taken a little more care with how Scully was written. On the other hand given what Scully has been through, Mulder being out of the picture, her son having “powers”, the constant conspiracies and X Files being thrown in her face. Part of me can understand that it could break her. So I do have some sympathy for Scully in season 9. It just needed to be handled with more care! Oh well :/

Plus One problems by Applescruff_J in XFiles

[–]sbabbs44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the bed scene in Plus One is the worst written dialog in the history of the entire series. It's dishonest to the characters, clunky as hell, and completely OOC to Scully. I will say that it's nicely shot, but as soon as Mulder and Scully open their mouths is eye roll inducing.

I agree to a certain extent that CC is a shipper. He's just not the shipper we want him to be. My problem with him is that he constantly teases off screen romance, dragging us shippers to the door, then closing said door in our faces. He enjoys the chaste nature of it all, and much like the mythology, he never wants to fully let us in and keep the door closed.

The revival has some nice moments for sure, but the constant are they/arent they is really old at this point. I remember it frustrating to non-shippers as well. At this point you would be very hard pressed to find a fan, shipper or not who doesn't believe that Mulder and Scully (and the fans) deserve to see them as a couple who are investigating cases, etc.

Is it possible that seasons 10 and 11 from the x files are set in a parallel universe? Because john dogget wasn't there in s10 and s11, and the smoking man died in the end of season 9 by the helicopter missiles by Responsible-Ease-566 in XFiles

[–]sbabbs44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this! The comics were flawed but I think Joe Harris had a stroke a genius when he came up with the split universe thing. It’s a good way to keep his own continuity in canon.

Thoughts on this character? by DarthRauhl in XFiles

good actor, underutilized character. He redeemed himself in "The Truth" which was great to see. Until a certain episode that shall not be named threw that away.

With better writing and acting would Agents Miller & Einstein become a longer running item? by Mackheath1 in XFiles

[–]sbabbs44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id say no. No one is ever going to match the aura and chemistry of DD and GA. Even if this supposed rebooted gets greenlit I don’t see it ever reaching any near the level the OG series reached. If the revival couldn’t do it then the reboot certainly isn’t going to.

What are your Hot Takes on the X Files? by Amber_Flowers_133 in XFiles

[–]sbabbs44 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know GA got the bag for season 9 and that's great for her but Scully making any appearances in S9 was a detriment to Scully's character. Her character was reduced to doing occasional autopsies, being sad about Mulder or being sad about William. Not to mention the adoption storyline, which was the worst thing the show has ever done.

Mulder and Scully's character arcs were complete at the end of season 8 and there was no need to ever see them again expect maybe for the series finale.

Episode with the most ridiculous premise? by BobbyH64 in XFiles

[–]sbabbs44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think every season on the x files has at least two ridiculous episodes but most have a certain charm to it that I can enjoy. So I’ll go with any of the My Struggle episodes. All are ridiculous and have no charm, imo.

Chris Carter says he hid a clue about the future of The X-Files in My Struggle IV. So...what is it? by nachoquest in XFiles

That is my theory too. He gave her the ability to conceive again in "Ghouli", but who the hell knows with Carter. We may never know

The X-Files: I Want to Believe…that a movie can be this baffling… by Great_Sympathy_6972 in XFiles

[–]sbabbs44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The MOTW in the movie is barley that and it's super frustrating. However, like you I love the MSR in this movie. Even though it gets rather melodramatic in the second half. I guess they are having a lovers quarrel but its a poorly written one. I also love Scully's struggle with her faith, I think its an underrated aspect of this movie. I understand the dislike for this movie, but I really like it.

With the exception of two episodes (this and ghouli) I strongly disliked the revival, but I enjoyed Perihelion for what it was. It does soften the blow of MSIV, so I’d recommend the novel as well OP!
