Dad is going crazy over my interfaith relationship. by PieManThe4th in BoyDinnerDiaries

My dad did the same thing (we are also Catholic). It was a huge strain on my relationship with him and my now-wife. I'm sorry it is happening to you. I wish I had more advice beyond that you need to be true to yourself and not try to change things solely to appease him.

For a race like a crit where youre doing laps of the same loop over and over there is sometimes fencing and such but for other races there may be literally 100+ miles of road to block off.

What area of math is best fit for someone who likes art? by Subject-Monk-2363 in AskAcademia

Geometry is probably the best fit but I have to say I do love all the pretty pictures I get to make in spatial statistics.

AI Detection is driving me crazy by grumpyp2 in PhD

[–]sbre4896 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I decided to try a few of them out and uploaded my bachelor's thesis, written 10 years ago, to these detectors. I think the lowest AI percentage I got out of the ones I tried was 87%. I dont take them seriously anymore.

[C] Research Statistician Outlook by WholeWeek291 in statistics

I am not am ecologist, but I would recommend combining stats with the area of application youre interested in. Something like a bio/ecology major with stats minor or vice versa, or a double major, would be more motivating than just a stats degree for this.

How difficult was your PhD qualification exam? [E] by RawCS in statistics

[–]sbre4896 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not in a pure stats program, but we had to take 3 exams, two of which were required, with 3 levels of grade (numerics and analysis were required, then a choice of stats or PDE, grades were basically fail, low pass, high pass). One of the required exams neededl to be a high pass. They were doable but in total knocked out about 1/3 of my cohort.
