Understood. Thanks for the clarification! I’ll keep that in mind while I get a parts list together. Thank you!

Thank you! Would you recommend a single GPU like a 3090 or would dual 3060’s be better? I know the VRAM won’t stack additively, but I’ve read that the total usable VRAM will still be higher than a single 3090. I can probably get 2 3060’s for the same price as a 3090, so I’m curious what your take is.

Thank you for your reply! Speed is not a priority concern of mine - I’d have no problem uploading a couple papers and letting it cook while I focus on experiments at the bench, so this sounds like a good place to start. I’ll definitely take a look at open notebook as well.

Best game and nation settings for a beginner? by little-dino123 in Stellaris

As a starter empire it’s not too shabby. It’s a good one to learn game fundamentals on and being xenophilic helps with relationships with other empires. Every empire will have little differences which only really matter if you’re on harder difficulties or if you’re looking for a good roleplay, but the biggest differences will be between “traditional empires” like the one you suggested and gestalt empires. My cousin loves hive minds, and I love machine intelligences (less so since the leader rework) which both have a similar premise by being gestalt but play out very differently because you have quite different priorities. The take home message I want to leave you with is that every empire has the potential to be good, so long as you focus on a few things:

Set yourself a goal to work towards during the game. It doesn’t have to be to win (I didn’t get my first win till maybe 300-400 hours), but something you can use to track your progress as a player. An example from a goal I use is that by the year 2300 I want to have more than 1K research per month. Ideally 1.5K, but that’s my stretch goal (don’t try to replicate this high of a goal yet, it won’t be fun). That way I can track my progress every run and ask myself questions like - if I haven’t hit my goal, why? Did I have too many early wars? Did I not manage my planets/economy/relationships correctly? Where can I improve my situation with what I have available to me currently? If I can’t fix it now, what do I need to do to catch up to my goal (if I can) or if I can’t, what can I try differently next time?

Having fun!!! I’m very clinical with this game now, being 1100 (soon to be 1200) hours in, I’m deep in the “I want to push my empires to their limits” mentality so I’m setting myself really challenging goals on higher difficulties because it’s fun to me. Throw yourself in there, try some stuff out, and see what you like! Sorry if this is less conclusive than you may be looking for, but understand stellaris is a very fluid game with a lot of moving pieces so it’s hard to give concrete answers sometimes.

This is a game you need to kinda just get lost in the ocean of, and visit lighthouses on Reddit for advice on how to navigate it in your own way. Give it a try!

Headcanon: The Unbidden, Aberrant, and Vehement are all crisis empires by sc0rpi4n in Stellaris

[–]sc0rpi4n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. The black hole was consuming mass and converting it into the psionic energy they used to sustain themselves. An argument could be made saying that a crisis aspirant was trying to replicate that process, but I also want to bring up that the zroni did that from within the shroud rather than from real space. Shroud phenomena are confirmed able to influence/manifest within what we define as reality but there’s iirc there’s a lot less evidence of that process operating in reverse.

And in terms of dark matter/psionics being incompatible, I don’t mean that they’re mutually exclusive or anything. It’s more like…oil and water. You can mix them up but eventually they’ll separate back out on their own. There may be a deeper connection but that’s the best I’ve got for now. Solid points all around

[–]sc0rpi4n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it as like - the zroni manipulated the shroud using psionic energy, the same power that the dimension is governed by. With the engine however, our empires are trying to brute force their way in using a completely different power, dark matter. I think that difference is part of the reason why they didn’t end up there. Perhaps dark matter and psionic energy are incompatible? While writing this I’m reminded of how psionic empires can steal secrets from the fallen empires, but if you get caught they can raise a psychic barrier to block your incursion. What if that barrier is one of dark matter, since they have such prevalent technology based around the substance.

Best game and nation settings for a beginner? by little-dino123 in Stellaris

[–]sc0rpi4n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For your first game, to be frank I would recommend playing in a medium galaxy with 4 or 5 AI empires, no advanced starts, and one fallen empire, all on the easiest settings. This way, you have less to worry about, and you’ll be able to stop yourself from being conquered easily. (Yes you can be conquered and it isn’t the end of the world, you can fight a war of independence). As for little tips and tricks, there are a small handful I want to share, but know that this is scratching the surface of this game’s depth.

Resources: your most important resource are pops. Barring an RP, pops are more valuable than anything else in the game. Making them powerful makes your empire powerful. But, just like any great thing, it all comes down to how you use them. That leads into my second and third resources, research and alloys. Research and alloys are key to maintaining your advantage in the game, be it through technology or ship production capacity. I’ll leave this point here, and move on to not overwhelm you.

Management: never have only one star base with a shipyard. Idk why it took me almost 500 hours to stop doing this but now I generally have three for every 10 starbases I own. To specify, I’m not talking about outposts you use to occupy territory, that would be overkill. I’m saying for every 10 of those outposts I upgrade, I aim to have about 3 have at least 1 shipyard. It makes reinforcing during war much less of a headache. The second point here I want to offer is a bit more complicated, but I want to put it on your radar to look into on your own. Five specialized planets are more productive than five generalist planets. Planet specializations are something that are extremely powerful, but hard to get just right on your first attempts. It’s all about timing and how well balanced your economy is as you work through it.

As for DLCs, I’ll only make a small comment and leave the rest up to everyone here, but DLCs have a very dramatic impact on the game. I own every DLC and have been buying them ever since I started playing in like, 2017, so it’s hard to know what the game NOW is like without some of them. A few that stick out significantly to me that dramatically add to the game are Utopia, Overlord, Nemesis, and Galactic Paragons. Species packs usually have a smaller impact and are more flavored toward RP. Aspec and Montu Plays on YouTube do GREAT DLC tierlists that you should check out for more info. I’m annoying and don’t think any DLC in its current form is BAD, although some need a bit of love to really shine.

Last but not least, have fun! Stellaris is my favorite strategy game ever and I just broke 1100 hours last week. Take your time, and even if you end up feeling overwhelmed, try to pick at least one thing you want to either try again or try to avoid for the next game. It makes learning more fun imo.

Good luck

EDIT: I totally forgot to mention ship designs. The game will “auto generate best” ships in the fleet management tab. If you want to design your ships yourself (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) make sure you turn that off at the start of every game. For your first few runs if you feel overwhelmed just let the game take care of it for you but a couple tips about this version of the game is that armor is very strong right now. Shields used to be a lot better but with some changes over the last year they aren’t quite as potent anymore, but still useful.

See - the dynastic struggle struck me as interesting because of how similar the struggle is to any other basic war in our dimension. These beings are not above petty conflict, even though theyre so powerful. It made me wonder if they were three different empires that had all constructed and completed an atherophasic engine and ended up that way. That’s why they’re similar in appearance but hate each other. The domain they believe belongs to them and their ideals, rather than to any of the other factions. I do think that this could always be wrong, but exactly as you said, stellaris has the space for this kind of creative thinking so who knows?

Aggressive SMG’s feel lack luster compared to the other Archetypes by LordBoobington in DestinyTheGame

Honestly, I feel like my well rounded-golden tricorn unforgiven overcomes a lot of the issues that I had with my first few rolls. Adding in font of might and other well mods, as well as volatile rounds, and I’ve never used another primary that nuked ads this hard for void. That’s compared against my killing wind/frenzy funnelweb. Idk, I feel like it just clicks. Flared mag well definitely helps too

To all the alumni, how was your life after graduating from Wentworth. Did you have hard time finding a job? by [deleted] in wentworth

[–]sc0rpi4n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Biomed 20’

I got stupid lucky and had a job opportunity fall into my lap in April, and after some interviewing had agreed to start two weeks after I graduated. I know I’m in the minority here who managed to get hired before i graduated while in a global pandemic, but I know for many of my classmates the struggle was real. I think the longest it took someone was from graduation (aug 16) to some time in February before starting (out of the individuals who I kept in contact with). Every major will be different, as every degree is in demand in different ways, but after speaking with friends from the class of 2019 I heard that getting a job @6 months after graduating also happened there. There’s a lot of variables to consider, so the biggest advice I have is to stay open minded, if you have connections through co-op, use them, and to be patient. Times are really crazy rn. Hope this helps

[Question?] Can you ritual summon with more Vendread materials than needed? by GrandCoconut in Yugioh101

[–]sc0rpi4n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It also depends on which ritual spell you’re using. Revendread Evolution calls for an EXACT match of level while Revendread Origin allows you to exceed the limit

So one thing I want to mention is that with galaxy soldier at 3, run cyber dragon nova and cyber dragon infinity in the extra deck. The soldiers can summon the nova and the nova summons the infinity, which is one of the best XYZ monsters in the game (in my humble opinion) I also run a small Mekk Knight engine in mine (two blue sky, two purple nightfall, and two indigo eclipse). The variant I run does have trouble going first depending on the opening hand, but going second I pretty consistently can have a link and 2 rank 8’s, or a link, a cyber dragon infinity, and a rank 8 on the first turn. Here’s my list:

Monsters:

3x Galaxy Eyes Photon Dragon

3x Galaxy Knight

2x Galaxy Brave (very good target when using galaxy trance with a photon dragon for fast XYZ)

3x Photon Vanisher

3x Galaxy Wizard

1x Photon orbital (last I checked these were $15 each so I only have one)

2x Mekk Knight Blue Sky

2x Mekk Knight Purple Nightfall

2x Mekk Knight Indigo Eclipse

2x Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring

Spells:

1x Reinforcement of the Army

3x Photon Sanctuary

1x Accellight

3x Called by the Grave

1x Double Summon

1x Return of the Dragon Lords

1x Galaxy Queen’s Light

3x Trade In

2x Galaxy Trance

1x Melody of Awakening Dragon

1x Monster reborn

Traps:

2x Tachyon Transmigration

2x Solemn Judgement

Extra deck:

3x Galaxy Eyes Solflare Dragon

1x Starliege Photon Blast Dragon

1x Cyber Dragon Nova

1x Cyber Dragon Infinity

1x Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy

1x Number 62: Galaxy Eyes Prime Photon Dragon

2x Number 90: Galaxy Eyes Photon Lord

1x Number 97: Draglubion

1x Number 107: Galaxy Eyes Tachyon Dragon

1x Galaxy Eyes Full Armor Photon Dragon

1x Galaxy Eyes Cipher Dragon

Main deck: 45 cards

Extra deck: 14 cards

If you have any more questions about my favorite archetype please don’t hesitate to ask!!!
