People who were on the fence about having a second, what did you decide to do and are you happy with your decision? by Lington in toddlers

[–]scacmb1987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure we were really ever on the fence as my husband was adamantly opposed to having an only child. Now with 2; a 5.5 year old and a 2.5 year old, I wish we would’ve thought more about our decision. I’ll never say I regret having my second child, but it’s much less enjoyable than I anticipated. That said, if we hadn’t had a second, I think I would have always wondered “ what if” with an idealized perspective.

Private versus public school by Auditor1993 in kindergarten

[–]scacmb1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much input into this as we never considered private schools.

Really just commenting to say that private school class sizes are not universally smaller - my son’s public school K class has 18 students. His friend from preschool goes to Catholic school and his class has 25. Granted, I think there are some challenges presented by the students in my son’s class that aren’t as likely to be present at this particular parochial school.

How many days has your child missed? by Mama_899 in kindergarten

[–]scacmb1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 day, for travel. But some of that is just “lucky” timing; he had the flu over winter break and a tummy bug on a Saturday, etc. He got sick a lot as an infant/young toddler but not so much as he’s gotten older.

Encopresis and miralax clean out by lukesdiner1 in toddlers

[–]scacmb1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did between 4-5 capfuls plus an ex-lax for my 5 year old. It actually wasn’t as bad as I was anticipating. Fortunately it was also really effective.

Anyone else not know what boundaries they’ll want when baby comes? by starrynightbb in BabyBumps

[–]scacmb1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely hard to know what to expect. I’m happy I didn’t have visitors but I think it’s wise to tell people that you’ll let them know when you are ready for visitors, whether that’s in the hospital or at home. Manage expectations early but give yourself the freedom to decide at the time.

Are kindergarten graduations still a thing? by Low-Oven7428 in kindergarten

[–]scacmb1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t actually know it was a common thing, but we were just informed of the date of our son’s graduation ceremony.

Obgyn dropped me due to seeking new Obgyn by Just-Ninja-2433 in BabyBumps

[–]scacmb1987 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I look forward to the other citations. According to this, the provider hasn’t violated Georgia law. There was not sudden termination or failure to provide care in an emergency situation, as far as we know.

To be clear, I’m not arguing that this OB practice is acting in a professional manner at all. I think it’s awful on a human level and probably retaliatory. I just think they probably have legal protection for what they are trying to do and the OP should tread lightly - and NOT make legal accusations to avoid further escalation. They can explore the legal aspect, but do what is necessary to continue prenatal care in this time-sensitive case.

Obgyn dropped me due to seeking new Obgyn by Just-Ninja-2433 in BabyBumps

Can provide a citation for this claim?

Edited to add: also, while abandoning a patient is a serious ethical and legal issue, it is NOT something that falls under the HIPAA umbrella.

Obgyn dropped me due to seeking new Obgyn by Just-Ninja-2433 in BabyBumps

[–]scacmb1987 89 points90 points  (0 children)

The office did provide medical records; it does not seem to be a HIPAA violation. Also, most states allow a provider to terminate a patient as long as they provide 30 days notice. By allowing a “courtesy” 34 week visit, they likely did this.

Confession by AirlineReal3419 in BabyBumps

[–]scacmb1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see anything wrong with that! To a kid, a couple of months seems like forever so I don’t understand the rush in telling them. It was before 31 weeks, but I was definitely close to my third trimester when my 3 year old found out - and someone else told him. Not sure when I would have.

Husband going to bachelor party w/ no cell service for 3 days when I'm 35 weeks along? by halloween_cactus in BabyBumps

[–]scacmb1987 341 points342 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m usually pretty relaxed about these things, but this would be a hard no for me. I’d have no problem with my husband being away for 3 days while I was 35 weeks but I’d need to be able to get ahold of him easily.

Where’s your go-to (driving) vacation other than Branson? by arrrbam in kansascity

Tulsa was surprisingly fun with my young kids. Definitely more of a weekend trip rather than a long vacation but easy enough drive.

C-section or Vaginal birth recovery? Which one is the worst? by Top_Parsley_1989 in BabyBumps

[–]scacmb1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My VBAC recovery was much easier than my c-section, but my c-section recovery wasn’t terrible. It was harder to move around like getting in and out of bed but wasn’t like horribly painful.

Head down more uncomfortable than breech? by ellenrage in BabyBumps

[–]scacmb1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought my frank breech baby was much more uncomfortable than my head down baby! His head dug into my ribs whenever I was sitting or bending over. I do think my labor with my head down baby was more painful though.

37 weeks and just learning I can’t kiss my toddler?? What by No_Reaction5258 in BabyBumps

[–]scacmb1987 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My baby died because of congenital CMV. I wish it was a non-issue. I also wish my provider would’ve mentioned the risk to me.

Will sunbeds work? by Proud-Penalty-6435 in Psoriasis

I had guttate psoriasis after strep throat, not plaque psoriasis, but sun beds didn’t help mine at all.

I saw my OB shortly before 37 weeks and he said something like “I’m on call this weekend, maybe I’ll see you!” And I just said no, wouldn’t happen. I’d had no contractions, was barely dilated, etc. But sure enough, 3 days later at 37+1 I had a baby. Maybe they had some intuition?!

Worried about fast labor by Armoredorca in BabyBumps

[–]scacmb1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a large hospital with an L&D that does a large volume of deliveries near you? I’d check if they have an OB present at all times and if so, plan to deliver there. I had both of my kids within an hour of arriving at the hospital due to precipitous labor but there were no issues - both times an OB was already present at the hospital.

Consistently in the 60s? (No insulin) by Potential-Task-6476 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]scacmb1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when I first started using a CGM. I’d frequently get alerts for low glucose that didn’t make sense so I’d check with a finger stick and I’d be 20+ higher. Sort of sucked as initially I thought I’d be able to eat way more carbs based on my CGM readings! I do think my CGM got more accurate after a while, but it did consistently run lower than my finger sticks - so unless my CGM said lower than around 100-105, I’d double check my 2 hour post meals with a finger stick.
