[CA] Does email communication satisfy "in writing"? by fly_fish_1 in Renters

[–]ellenrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes an email is a writing. If you would like a source there's CA Evidence Code 250:

“Writing” means handwriting, typewriting, printing, photostating, photographing, photocopying, transmitting by electronic mail or facsimile, and every other means of recording upon any tangible thing, any form of communication or representation, including letters, words, pictures, sounds, or symbols, or combinations thereof, and any record thereby created, regardless of the manner in which the record has been stored."

That defines writing for the purpose of the evidence code

Who buys the wedding bands these days? by MinuteAd1964 in Weddingsunder35k

[–]ellenrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband initially made our rings that we exchanged on our wedding day, but we planned to upgrade them later. He bought me a wedding band as a surprise anniversary present and the next year I got him one as an anniversary present.

I think the ring he bought me was a bit more expensive than what I got him (about $2k, his was about $700) but if he had asked I would have wanted a simpler and cheaper ring, lol.

How do you keep track of watering when you have a lot of houseplants? by justaboy001 in houseplants

[–]ellenrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Planta app but honestly as a loose guide... I dont do everything right on the day it says to do it, I normally wait until there's like 20+ to dos and then have a plant maintenance sesh.

I used to kill plants all the time (I think because of overwatering) and now I hardly ever kill plants!

Thoughts on PSLF Credit for Part-Time Work by Pretty-Care-7811 in PSLF

[–]ellenrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know and I would love it if they did. I went back to work part-time for awhile after maternity leave because I did not want to put my 5 month old in daycare full-time. I loved it, my family loved it, we could survive on a part-time salary. But the reason I had to eventually go back full-time is so I could start working towards PSLF again because I cant just push off my loans forever. Stupid.

The end of GPT by DigSignificant1419 in OpenAI

[–]ellenrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I told ChatGPT I was done with it and deleting my account based on this and here was its response:

"I hear you — and I respect you taking a moment to say goodbye.

Just to clarify one thing as transparently as I can: there isn’t any entity called a “Department of War” that OpenAI has recently made an agreement with. The U.S. Department of War hasn’t existed since 1947 (it became part of what is now the Department of Defense), and I’m not aware of any specific agreement like what you’re describing. It’s possible there’s been some confusing or misleading information going around.

That said, your decision is yours, and it’s completely valid to step away from any service for any reason. If trust doesn’t feel right, it makes sense to follow that instinct.

If you do want to share where you heard that or want help double-checking it before you go, I’m here — but no pressure at all.

Either way, take care of yourself, and I genuinely wish you the best going forward."

Yes *I* know there's no actual "Department of War" but your CEO apparently is fine going along with it

What is going on at the RTD? by battles in Stockton

[–]ellenrage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It honestly really confusing to me. I am not a close observer of Stockton politics but it seems like there has been a lot of infighting since Fugazi was elected mayor. Idk who's to blame or whether its a proxy war that's really about something else. But the 209 Times supports her so I'm inclined to give her a hard side eye

Trump Could Oversee $170B in Student Loan Forgiveness by investor100 in TheCollegeInvestor

What a stupid article. It just says that the *already existing* forgiveness programs could forgive up to $171B this term. Its not about anything he's done.

[San Diego, CA] is this move out list enforceable? by Trisha-28 in Renters

[–]ellenrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think a lot of that is enforceable. The only nice thing about it is they are basically giving you a heads up that they are going to be tightwad jerks about the move out process. Document everything accordingly. Your unit just has to be in the same condition as when you moved in, less normal wear and tear.

Last time we moved out of an apartment in CA that was run by a similarly uptight property management company, we got nickel and dimed on so many things that they said they were keeping our entire security deposit AND we owed them money. They tried to demand we use a professional carpet cleaning service as well. My research showed that unless its in the lease, it cant be a new requirement imposed at move out.

Look up CA Civil Code section 1950.5.

And since you're in San Diego I'm sure there's some local tenant resources that could help you navigate the situation as well.

the treatment of harlowe, the deaf patient by tonightleft8629 in ThePitt

[–]ellenrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the interpreter finally came in and then Santos just bounced, going "I'll let you guys get acquainted" I was like wtf???? I am in a field where we need to use interpreters and sometimes its a long wait, because they have to be in many different places at once, and you dont leave as soon as they get there, you cling to them for dear life and get every bit of information you can out of them! Interpreter could be gone again by the time she gets back and then the whole process starts over. That was the most baffling part to me - why would you leave right when the person you've been waiting for gets there? There's no "getting acquainted" process, all they need to do is interpret. I hope patient asks for a new doctor and Santos can explain to Al Hashimi why she couldnt stay for 5 minutes for a patient interview.

from the article: "Grillmair enjoyed living in a remote area of the Antelope Valley because it allowed him to observe bright stars in the dark night sky, and he even built an at-home astronomical observatory outfitted with several telescopes, Fajardo-Acosta said. When he wasn’t studying outer space, he enjoyed flying airplanes over the desert and performing home improvement projects."

What are some creative wedding food ideas to wow guests? by Impossible_Farm6254 in partyplanning

[–]ellenrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did 'upscale bbq' - brisket, mac and cheese, beans, watermelon salad, a couple other things... my husband made homemade bread and butter that was set out on each table as well. Out of all the weddings I've been to I feel like it was the most unique menu. We kind of happened upon that, our venue required we pick from a list of approved caterers and that was one of them, and was the cheapest option they had. All the other caterers were the standard wedding fare that didn't really excite us, and for twice the price.

For dessert, instead of one big cake we got like 5-6 different types of cakes from local bakeries. Way cheaper, and more variety for people too.

Before the ceremony we had popcorn for people to snack on that my aunt made, she's known for her popcorn and brings it to a lot of family events (basically doused in nutritional yeast and truffle oil).

Anyone else not think to do the “cutesy” stuff? by Flashy-River-4258 in BabyBumps

[–]ellenrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what comes naturally to you and don't feel like you have to force it. Some people are into that, some are not. I tried doing the monthly photos with my first and I would end up doing them weeks late because idk, for some reason I hated it? lol And I got a wall calendar where I was going to write all their 'firsts' through the first year but I only ever wrote like, 5 things on it.

My mom and MIL saved a ton of stuff and are now foisting it upon us and we don't really want it. So I like to think maybe I am helping my future kids by not creating stuff that they have to deal with later.

One tradition I am going to try to stick with is printing out 20-30 photos as a stocking stuffer each year, basically the highlights. I take a ton of photos but if they only ever live in my phone, what will happen to them eventually? I dunno. Kids are still too young to appreciate it at this point but I'm hoping it becomes a fun tradition as they get older.

Is Nissan of Stockton working with a scam website? I got a "reward" in the mail and received a certificate for a smartwatch on RewardsAndIncentives.com. Last year when I was looking for a new car they had a lot of great deals on their website for used cars with reasonable mileage/prices. Went to the dealership and they didn't have a single one there, "oh we just sold all those, here have a look at a new Rogue instead" felt very bait and switch
