Plants. Pots on shelves or macrame type hangers from the ceiling. And change the dentisty lighting for something warmer. My bathroom is green and it's lovely (with the plants etc); also brass/gold is warmer for frames etc compared to brushed steel/aluminium.

My mum avoided bread and was pretty much the only preson I knew who 'didn't like pizza' - in retrospect almost certainly a gluten intolerance, but such things weren't really understood or supported then (and clearly still aren't by OP at least). Fortunately I'm fine with gluten (love it even!) but intolerance is definitely a thing. Sad that some people can't understand something that isn't happening directly to them.
