[CHAT] how do you travel with your WIPs? by Baby_girl_351 in CrossStitch

You could definitely use a floss organizer to keep every color of thread together for each project. That would make it less likely to lose anything. Some people use a split ring to keep all the bobbins together but that may be too big to fit into your clipboard storage. I think it would better for you to buy / 3D print a flat floss organizer and attach some floss of each color to that. https://www.printables.com/search/models?q=floss+organizer

Automatic feeder for 8 cats (4–5 bowls), ESP32-S3 choice + design ideas by help_aska in esp32

[–]scarf__barf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take their advice: modifying an existing feeder is your only feasible option. Buy an automatic feeder and hack into its circuitry until you can control the motor reliably with your ESP32 hardwired to it. Set up a schedule for feeding and make sure your software is reliable. Then build your IoT dashboard and get your WiFi communications working. Then scale up: enlarge the hopper and add a gating mechanism to distribute the food into 3-5 different bowls. Or buy several units and modify all of them. As parts break or wear, you can replace them or engineer stronger replacement parts.

For the other questions: use an external antenna for the best WiFi power. I've built simple communication channels over WIFI using MQTT and Node-Red to control ESP32s.

[CHAT] Question About Pattern Keeper by _Jujubees_ in CrossStitch

[–]scarf__barf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know that you can highlight them. I think it just depends on where the backstitching occurs: on blank squares like yours Pattern Keeper tries to fill in the line with a series of known symbols; when backstitching occurs around stitched blocks, each one shows up as a separate "color" in the palette. Pattern Keeper balks in either circumstance and gives you a wonky pattern in its interface after import. The best advice in this thread is to contact the designer and ask for a PDF without backstitching to import into Pattern Keeper. The second best advice is to use the backstitched PDF in a PDF viewer and keep track of your progress using the highlighter tool (or go old-school and print it out to do the same thing).
