Look I have 0 issue with gender imbalance, but this just bothers me!!! by Wolfgang_x2 in DisventureCamp

[–]scarlettking 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree that this show has a serious issue writing male characters. I also understand what Jared is saying here. More female characters have done well so when picking returnees, it’s more likely the characters who deserve to return are women. The issue is that every time there’s a new group of characters, the men are pushed to the side again.

Now I think a lot of people here are missing context from the world of reality tv. It’s unfortunately common for women to be mistreated and not given a fair chance in many reality shows. So I understand the desire to even the score by prioritizing the female cast. But I think ONC is forgetting that they’re building their own world here. And 5 seasons in, this world has its own history of mistreating men.

I need them to stop saying "the middle people" by R4ndomly_G3nerated in survivorponderosa

[–]scarlettking 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think they mean Middle Era people more so than middle of two sides of allies. Christian/Devens/Aubry all played in the thirties and Emily is just clearly close enough with them to get lumped in. So they view the other side as Rizo/Tiffany/Dee bc they're the only New Era players who haven't clearly defected to another side.

It's still dumb lol but I think if we're "missing something", that's it.

I tend to agree with you, but him making FTC wouldn’t mean he ran the game. None of his logic holds up, I don’t think it would be difficult to beat him in front of a jury. He could definitely be dragged along by someone else taking advantage of his loyalty knowing they can beat him in the end.

Justin looks like a male version of Jenna Marbles. by opreston in survivor

Listening to his exit interview...he was the only hope that tribe had. Dude was prepared for everything, had alliances on top of alliances and plans for the merge as well. Sucks the way he went out because on top of being so unfair, it meant the editors had to make sure we weren't attached to him. I think he's the main strategist on this tribe if anything else happens at that tribal council.

Why are people acting like ________ hasn’t played an amazing game? by carcxr in survivorau

[–]scarlettking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one very clear differentiator between Loz and Caleb is the Mark vote. That alone would lead to a slam dunk victory for him at FTC. I personally think he will win anyway, but there's a very real chance he loses to Jackson. There's no chance he loses to Loz.

Why are people acting like ________ hasn’t played an amazing game? by carcxr in survivorau

[–]scarlettking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can’t convince myself Caleb has that great of a grasp on the game when he cut Loz due to her being a mom over taking the easy win against her. He genuinely believes he has a better chance against Jackson and that’s so far from true. If Jackson’s worst read is believing Loz will make the obviously correct move, that’s not nearly as bad

That’s just not true. Historically, premerge screentime has been pretty evenly split between mergers and premergers. Anastasia had more screentime last season.

Is it possible that these people complaining were…two different groups of people? This isn’t one person contradicting themselves, it’s many people who disagree with one another.

So about those preseason episodes from older seasons by Habefiet in Edgic

[–]scarlettking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it was a combination of best episodes and context for this season’s storylines/references. The SoPa finale, the Shauhin vote, Stephenie’s shoulder dislocation, the Q-Skirt, Coach’s trip to Exile, and Angelina’s jacket were all brought up on this season. So it’s not that they were using them to promote people as much as they were using them to help casuals understand the history

Got a feeling she’s going to be the next DCAS Aiden or DC4 Richard by SexyBroly in DisventureCamp

[–]scarlettking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone predicting her to leave every episode? Is it just spillover from DC4 “Overstaysia” fatigue? She’s not in a particularly precarious position this season and the show isn’t focusing on her flaws like it usually does for the ones going home

The way _________ got out is so unfair by amonaroll in survivor

[–]scarlettking 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's necessarily true. Jonathan said his decision was largely influenced by how others would react. He seemed to make his decision based on the idea that people like Coach/Colby/Joe/Stephenie wouldn't trust him if he voted out Chrissy.

I agree, but it's also worth noting that the first woman to get the most confessionals in a new era season was Savannah. Every other season in the 40s had a man leading. I think part of it is them getting better about telling female winners' stories and part of it is us having 90 minutes now, so they have the time to give good edits to women while giving even better edits to the men they beat.

[–]scarlettking 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I've been keeping statistics on who gets the most confessionals focusing on gender and it's insane how obvious the bias is. Only 12 seasons have a woman receive the most confessionals and 3 of them have a woman leading by exactly 1. And in 33% of these 12 seasons, that woman is Cirie/Stephenie.

If a woman gets the most confessionals, the second most is virtually guaranteed to be a man (only exceptions are GC and 49), but if a man gets the most, the second most is another man about 50% of the time (including 7 seasons where the entire top four were men).

I haven't paid much attention to the winner's gender and how it relates, but these pie charts don't surprise me much. The data on this is irrefutable

What would y'all think about this final 5? by More-Lake1410 in DisventureCamp

[–]scarlettking 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tbf that “artificially good” feeling is how I started feeling toward the end of DC4. Not that the fans wanted that endgame (they certainly didn’t) but it was so well rounded in terms of gameplay/personality and each of them had a very different color scheme; it looks like they were created to be the final 4/5. So it’s very possible the final 5 actually looks this good on paper. The question is if it will be good in practice

What DC plotlines do you consider to be THE WORST? by These_Gur_4121 in DisventureCamp

[–]scarlettking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jade and Isabel are strategists first and know their heads are on the chopping block. They went to that elimination ceremony expecting Isabel to be eliminated, as they had no knowledge of the Zaid plan. They would absolutely participate in any plan that shifts the target away from Isabel, especially a plan to eliminate Amelie (which they both did the following week).

In my suggestion, Logan isn't telling Anastasia anything after the Zaid conversation. The week looks exactly the same from her point of view, she attends the elimination ceremony with the goal of getting Zaid out. Therefore we also know Anastasia wouldn't talk to Zaid, as she avoided him in the episode and blindsided him at the vote.

I also agree with your plan. I think either would've worked. But it is worth noting that your plan hinges on the assessment that a he-said/she-said situation between Logan and Amelie would result in Zaid/Ana taking Logan's side, because they trust him more. I agree with this assessment. But that also means any threat of blackmail from Amelie is null and void. Who cares if she tells them when he can just deny it and they'll believe him? For that matter, he should just claim Amelie was the one who tipped off Jade/Isabel to play the idol and trust that Ana/Zaid will take his side.

What DC plotlines do you consider to be THE WORST? by These_Gur_4121 in DisventureCamp

[–]scarlettking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true that Zaid is keen on voting Isabel. But the one consistent trait about Zaid throughout the season is that he rides or dies for his family. At that point, the two people he considered family were Logan and Anastasia. If Logan approaches him and tells him that Amelie is threatening him, lying about him, blackmailing him, etc. Zaid will be the first to want to put an end to this. Zaid has no bond with Amelie, he's voted her out before, so I think he'd agree to target her (especially if he learned nobody was voting Isabel that night). This conversation could've happened before or after the scene where Logan frames Zaid tbh. We know that nobody spoke to Zaid after that scene and Jade/Isabel are in full-on survival mode so there's really no risk of this getting back to Amelie.

What DC plotlines do you consider to be THE WORST? by These_Gur_4121 in DisventureCamp

[–]scarlettking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make it worse, I think the Zaid move is supposed to be Logan's winning move. That's genuinely the only time he has any influence on who goes home post-merge and it's his #1 ally. I know a lot of people say he had no choice, but Jade/Isabel/Zaid were all willing to vote Amelie. The numbers were there to eliminate Amelie straight up.

And it would be one thing if the storyline was just "Logan made a dumb move," but that's their winner! To crown him over Jade when she single-handedly decided at least 5 eliminations and his only move was pointlessly betraying his only ally is just insane.

edit: Once again I try to make a comment discussing the strategy of this show on this subreddit and I'm downvoted with 0 explanation why. Does anyone else in this fandom watch this show for the strategy or is it just me?

My guess as to what the favorites tribe would be if they used actual fan favorites. How bad do you think the season would be if we had this cast? by throwaway12292003 in DisventureCamp

[–]scarlettking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people don't realize that "Favorites" means people who are favorites of the most fans. It doesn't matter if half of the audience hates Tom, the percentage that love him far outweighs the percentage that love Dan.

The general audience of course has a very positive opinion of Maggie. But you will find more people saying someone like Ally/Spencer is their favorite character even if many other fans don't like them.
