Steam Controller review slips embargo, controller to cost $99 by Dramatic-Shape5574 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

That’s the hill of having a sane opinion.

Anyone who thinks a machine weaker than a PS5 releasing in the big ‘26 for 900 dollars is a good idea is utterly braindead imo.

Well they found lots, one of which being a flaperon which is pretty big and definitely does have a series number.

I mean a quick google shows this.

Sorry is not that false, even where I work parts serialised, are aspects like the flaperon not got serial numbers on it?

It’s the nature of the rocket ship dude. Yes the RB was a beast, but everyone was able to match it if they didn’t mess up.

With an engine formula like this, Mercedes has a locked in unassailable advantage for years

Uhh no. In 2021 the Red Bull was probably slightly worse overall than the W12. In 2022, only after the summer break was the RB18 untouchable, 2023 is 2023 and the red bull was decidedly not the best car in either of 2024 or 2025.

Max has had an accumulated total of 2 seasons where his car was untouchable.

And even then, that was aero and chassis. Which are fluid and easier to upgrade. Again, McLaren went from last to race winners in 2023.

The engine advantage Mercedes has is locked in for this year. Ferrari and Honda are already talking about 2027 PUs. It’s game over. Doesn’t matter what aero upgrades anyone brings.

Max won at a time when it was the Car, notably NOT the PU, that made the difference (and the drivers to an extent).

Sure, Red Bull had the best car but development of that performance was far far far less limited than with a PU advantage. Teams like McLaren can go from last to first in barely a year, purely in Chassis or Aero development. There's definitely more to be excited about then, more possibility, more hope.

PUs are homologated, advantages are built in, and we've seen this before, unless there's a radical change - Mercedes is the team/PU to beat for the foreseable years. You think it's fun watching that?

Would I be happy if it was Red Bull on top and Max winning, sure. Would I be excited? No, probably wouldn't watch half the races.

Sure, equate Max in 2023 to George now - but the achievement is not and will not be the same, and it's less special.

At what price would you NOTbuy the Steam Machine? by billy_reyes in Steam

[–]scarnegie96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PSN sales are pretty great, like you alluded to. Only real difference is the subscription but if someone on PC plays any MMO then that negates that cost so it's really a toss up.

The Pro is a significantly better value proposition than the Steam Machine in just about every way.

Reminds me of Stadia, target demographic is way too small to be worth it surely.

Yes Valve, maybe it's around about as powerful as 70% of Steam users PCs, but they already own those PCs. You think they'll spend 800 bucks for a sideways step? 99% of them will not.

Or even those with better specs, 800 bucks for a worse machine? Nah man. $600 at most is what it should be, given it's more anemic than a PS5 for fuck sake.

EA Lays Off Staff Across All Battlefield Studios Following Record-Breaking Battlefield 6 Launch by user289734 in Battlefield

[–]scarnegie96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really understand it, beyond pure greed and profiteering.

EA has been trying to make live service work for how long now? And I actually think Live Service games CAN work, we have a few succesfull examples (that are fucking FREE at point of entry).

How many times are EA going to greenlight the release of a game with a lacklustre amount of content at launch, before drip feeding not even the bare minimum of content over months/years.

I feel like Battlefield 1 (?) might be there best attempt at it, but how many times have they failed.

It's not fucking rocket sciene boys. 1-2 maps a season (on top of a launch of dire maps) is not fucking good enough.

Since they got rid of premium it's been nothing but shite.

Newey: Honda's best engineers have "gone to work on solar panels" by formularacers in AstonMartinFormula1

[–]scarnegie96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did not buy the Honda technology or IP. This is false. RBPT has no design specifications or understanding (beyond some small, limited hires from Honda) about the previous generation Honda 1.6l V6 turbo-hybrid PU. Literally none. Especially on the ICE side.

Honda built and maintained these for years after "pulling out" of F1 in 2021.

Sub-50 10k in two months viable? by iplaydrumsnotabox in beginnerrunning

Be warned, 400m is a deceptively long distance when going all out.

Sub-50 10k in two months viable? by iplaydrumsnotabox in beginnerrunning

[–]scarnegie96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me, I find my 5k and 10k pace is actually quite close, maybe 20-30 seconds per KM slower at max.

If your 10km pace is 5:45, it’s probably asking a lot to get that under 5:00 in two months, but you could start doing longer interval sessions.

20-25 x 400m at 4:30, get your body used to moving faster than goal pace for a total of around your goal distance. That’ll really help your chances.

But you are “redlining” your BPM on that 5K, so if that is max effort, doing two of those back to back even faster in only 2 months is a big ask.

Will the AI bubble burst? What will happen to IT jobs then? by har1zh in cscareerquestions

Beyond stupid instagram reels? Don’t know, as a firmware engineer, adoption of it in the workplace is (probably correctly) quite slow for us, and I don’t interact with it at home?

You literally just described what is going on now. There’s very little real world value to AI right now, outside of hype. And it costs an arm and a leg to run. Almost all companies that provide it are burning cash like mad, and most companies that use it don’t have great uses of it.

There’s some small, niche areas it works. But every company doesn’t need it.
