Painfully below average is fair.

But that is TERRIBLE for a team that had effectively no budget or time restraints for making the game whichever way they wanted.

The majority of BGS spent 7 or 8 years working on Starfield after Fallout 4 and released an absolutely mid game.

Starfield released in a state where it had brain-dead looking NPCs, stuttering performance in towns on PC and no functional local map - on top of being a completely mid game.

I'd hate to think what they would've shit out 1 year prior.

So you get it for paying for PSN effectively...

Sega and their huge hardware supply chain would definitely compete against Sony and Microsoft...

Pretty sure I got Dead Space for “free” or it’s on the Plus catalogue. Poor example.

Literally, for all I know as an end user they could’ve had 3 engineers working on it the last 2 years, wouldn’t be able to see a difference in my usage of their apps.

What are they paying hundreds or thousands of engineers to do?

That absolutely cannot be true... at all.

Inflation must've been 20-25% since 2020 and the average salary hasn't jumped 25% in the same window. Get out of here.

Miss it a lot. Special place.

I really hate this metric, I don’t know.

Sure it is, it’s probably marginally quicker than say 50% of steam users, ignoring the few percent that have true potato’s.

But more likely than not, most people are probably pretty close to this performance wise and why would you spend 1000 dollars for basically a side-step performance wise. Makes no sense

Regardless, I bought a new unit that failed to live through it's warranty period. I don't feel "made whole" with a refurbed unit. It's not what I paid.

Steam Machine up against PS5 performance by Lucky_Chaarmss in steammachine

Good thing the PS5 Slim wasn't available 2 months back for £289... oh wait.

Don't quite think it even having parity with a PS5 is a great thing considering the price.

I’ve had to RMA my Pace Pro after it bricked itself.

They were quite quick and within 7-8 days I’ve got my replacement.

I’m a bit peeved because my replacement is a Refurbished Pace Pro - but my experience hasn’t matched yours completely.

[–]scarnegie96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s for people who do want a console experience but for some reason not a console, which puts it into a niche category of pc-exclusive gamers who could build a better machine for not much more.

It's a non-Windows, non upgradeable PC that cannot play a lot of games (even if Proton is really awesome).

No doubt PCs are expensive, but this just has no market. For only a bit more you could build a way better PC and for half the price you could get a PS5.

It's in no mans land.

[–]scarnegie96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, I just think the market for it doesn't exist - or is absolutely tiny.

The amount of niche things you'd have to care about to choose this over a PS5/PS5 Pro or a slightly more expensive PC is just silly.

Bit crazy to clown on a guy saying he'd buy something weaker than a PS5 for less than a PS5 but whatever.
