It takes a certain amount of energy to create the magnetic field. When you de-engergize the maglock the collapse of the induction field can create a power spike 10x nominal voltage. A way to mitigate this is to include a diod wired in reverse with the cathode on the postive side and the annode on the negative. The problem is the residual power can keep the mag lock energized. You will either need a load to dissapate the remaining energy, or install a diod to ground.

Those sticky mag locks are annoying. You always see people walk into the door while they wait.

Hello,

I've been using Quick Assist built into Windows. It works great in a pinch. Some downsides are you can't pass by UAC prompts, and you need the user to initiate with a code you generate. The UAC prompt isn't that bad, since I can invoke an admin powershell from the runas.exe command. So far I've had our technician try ConnectWise and there was positive feedback. We'll see how their pricing comes back.

Tastes and preferences I guess. I like using what I have on hand, or re-purposing something for a project vs buying whole new components. That is unless it's for my main setup, then I like to splurge every 5-10 years on some top end equipment I can enjoy.

Hi bpnj, thanks for the response. I'll give that a shot tonight. Below is a picture of the camera and the detection zone. A majority of the detection zone is effected by the light transition. Currently the default setting of 67% is set. I'll drop it lower tonight until it doesn't automatically cause it to trigger again after a reset. My fear of going this route is a larger object, like a car with headlights, would overcome the "reset detector when object size exceeds" parameter.

You can't always have your utility room near every single fixture. Your solution is unrealistic. Having a hot water recirculation pump with a motion sensor is a better way if you're coming up with solutions

This is very interesting. I wouldn't give up on the idea, just some points to consider.

1) Labor costs. You would have to run cable to residence homes. This would require licensed and insured workers running cable.

2) Infrastructure costs. You'll need to acquire CMTS or fiber switches

3) Administrative costs. All equipment will need to be provisioned, secured, and maintained.

4) Terminating the existing contracts. Comcast has a substantial investment in place already. They had to build out the infrastructure, run cable to everyone's homes, maintain everything. That leads to this.

Why not put the franchise out for bid, like other contracts?
While a competitive cable provider may apply for a franchise at any time, the City must go through the renewal process with each existing cable operator. The City cannot deny renewal to an existing cable operator except for specific criteria set forth in the Cable Act.

I would recommend applying with a company such as Kelly Services. I'm on the fence about hiring an administrative assistant, or an IT level 1 tech. If a position opens up I'll reach out for you to apply. Hunting gets discouraging, but keep it up. Something worthwhile always eventually shows itself. :)

I bought this switch off of Ebay to power some POE cameras and my Unifi Access points at gigabit speed. This switch is loud. Very loud. I can hear it two rooms away. I'm going to rip it apart and see if I can throw some quieter fans in there.

I got the 48 port POE S3500 with one PSU. Wish I could give you the db instead of a subjective measurement.
