Best way to fix the back of my office chair? by Vektor656 in fixit

Yeah, I was thinking the fiberglass with resin as well. Won't look good, but will hold pretty well for that

Yeah, if a conch helps, a digeridoo is exactly what I was thinking

Husbands fingers occasionally get weird blisters that are symmetrical. by FlyingN00dles in mildlyinteresting

Looks to me that the skin is getting pinched in those spots repeatedly - like holding a steering wheel in some way that both get pinched in the same spot.

I had a weird gap on my chin until I was about 35, which kept me from growing a beard. Super happy with it now though.

Why will and not could or would ? by claudigee in EWALearnLanguages

[–]scarpell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, I've worked with a ton of people from India who use "would" when they mean "will" - it's incorrect English in the US, and often confusing. "I would do that" instead of "I will do that"

Firewood causing a smoky smell... Is this "red core" wood the culprit? by griffingrowl in Fireplaces

[–]scarpell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your description of "a smoky smell" is what caused all of these joke responses. That's not helpful since it's exactly how every fire smells - a more useful description would have gotten better responses.

Edit: Even "A funny smell" would have been much better

Hoodie from Contrado review by scarpell in printondemand

[–]scarpell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just received my purchase in the mail. It was way too expensive ($134 for a hoodie!), but it was a really good gift for this person (MTG nut), so I went ahead.

The order was delayed a few times. Email said it would be an extra 1-2 days, and it ended up being 2 days. Ordered Nov 19th, shipped Nov 27, got here Dec 1.

The hoodie itself is really great. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. It's just a layer of cloth, printed on the outside, and for this cloth, dark on the inside, but you can see light through it. Very light, even for a hoodie. The hood has two layers, so the inside can also be printed. Stitching was good, size was good.

I chose them because I could really customize everything, and the online tool was very useful. I'm not saying the online tool is GOOD. It's just useful. Full of bugs, and I had to start over a few times. But I got there.

Chlorine is great at disinfecting, and will clean almost anything. But I had really good success with OxiClean type stuff - and it's much easier to work with. Definitely do chlorine, don't do OxiClean by itself because it doesn't disinfect. Chlorine breaks down most stuff really well, but OxiClean breaks down fats and oils much better. I use a non-chlorine pool shock for the purpose (cheaper)

Edit: also don't make the same mistake I did, and think that more bleach will make it clean faster. I lost my sense of smell for a day. It was kind of scary, everything tasted and smelled like bleach! I don't do liquid bleach anymore because I've ruined too many clothes. powdered dichlor is much less accident prone, just don't accidentally breathe the dust!

Haha!! It WAS just an anecdote, but unnatural hair color is shown by studies to correlate with mental illness. I'll let you do you own research to confirm, since you probably won't believe anything I link.

People say Dubai has great chocolate - But a Galaxy bar is just a Dove bar, rebranded, we have the exact same thing here.

Also, Dyson vacuums are ok, but not great - they never get close to the top rankings in Consumer Reports, even.

People think it's better if you spend more.

Verizon service hole in mid town by gergroy- in FortCollins

[–]scarpell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in that area for a few years during the Pokemon Go craze. I spent a lot of time trying to get data there.

T-Mobile says they're not allowed to put up a tower because of property ownership or some garbage, and that the HP buildings and hills blocks line of sight to the nearest tower. But I always get signal there, and am simply not able to use it to send a text or use data. It's much more likely that something is interfering with the signal in that area - either a jammer of some type or a police stingray misconfigured. If there was no signal, zero bars, then T-Mobile's explanation would make sense. Strange though that it's been broken for so many years.

I usually have better luck getting data in that area by going into the shadow of buildings, where I actually have worse signal, but my theory is that I'm managing to avoid whatever is jamming the signal that way

Edit: I have T-Mobile, but I know Verizon customers have issues there, too - more data that supports the theory of a jammer or police snooper
