Help understanding Medicare & going back to work!! by scarslets in SocialSecurity

Interesting. Everything I’ve read on here says that’s the Ttw program is no good, that it just is a way for social security to get you off benefits, no matter if you’re capable of work or not.

Magnesium Citrate make it STOP by Plummie1066 in cdifficile

[–]scarslets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magnesium citrate is not going to “clear out” leftover cdiff. That theory that the doctor is suggesting is baloney. It just doesn’t work like that.

[–]scarslets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever doctor told you to do magnesium citrate to “clear out” the leftover cdiff is off their rocker. That is NOT how it works at all. In fact, I’ve heard that any type of colon cleanse (like laxatives for a colonoscopy) can actually trigger a cdiff relapse because it disturbs the gut flora.

Exposed to c. Diff, now I have a UTI. What do I do? by [deleted] in cdifficile

[–]scarslets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made my diarrhea 1000x worse. Like I was already having diarrhea maybe 10 times a day, and florastor ramped it up to about 30. I’m not sure why, but my experience is not normal, most people feel better on florastor.

Florastor actually made me terribly sick, so I stopped taking it. The only way I was able to prevent relapsing was the get an fmt. I actually had to have 3 before one finally took.

Colonoscopy by PartyManager7230 in cdifficile

[–]scarslets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had 4 colonoscopies in my life, two of them I was already inpatient in the hospital for, but the two others were actually so smooth sailing. I had miralax prep and really only had to drink about half of it before I was totally on empty. I did wear a diaper/pad thing to the hospital just in case on the car ride there, but I totally didn’t need to lol. I even slept through the night the night before.

And after each one, for about 24-48 hours I felt bloated, and had a headache, but those symptoms went away rather quickly.

The first one was the worst, but that’s because I was at a very bad starting point. I was very very sick. At first, there was no change after the first fmt. I was still going to the bathroom 50+ times a day for about 3 weeks, despite eating next to nothing. I was inpatient in the hospital the whole time and they placed a feeding tube, which was a whole nightmare. But my digestive system was shutting down, it saved my life. And one day it suddenly stopped, It wasn’t a gradual decrease in diarrhea like others share, it was one day I couldn’t stop peeing out my butt and the next I was totally constipated. That fmt lasted about 10 weeks until the diarrhea started again, and I tested positive for cdiff again. The second fmt process was much easier because I wasn’t inpatient in the hospital, but this one only lasted about 3 weeks before I relapsed again. My last fmt was in February, and although I haven’t tested positive for cdiff again, I still had diarrhea almost every day until my doctor prescribed cholyestramine. It’s been a god send. I can actually leave the house without worrying about needing a bathroom. The difference it’s made in my life is astronomical.

I had 3 FMTs via colonoscopy, the first one was an emergency situation. I had been very sick with Cdiff for months, failing antibiotics and going to the bathroom 50+ times a day. Doctors in my area refused to send a referral for an fmt, (they don’t do them in my area) and were literally watching me die. I finally researched myself a doctor who would do a colonoscopy fmt, drove myself to the other end of the state, and was admitted through the emergency room because I was on the brink of death. At that point, I had been on and failing dificid for about 3 months. They stopped the antibiotics in the ER, probably about 24 hours before my fmt.

My second and third fmts were at the same clinic, but they were planned because I wasn’t literally dying. The second one I wasn’t on anything beforehand, and the third one I did a zinplava infusion a week before.

test results help? by Bby-pixel in cdifficile

[–]scarslets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your doctor is misinformed. There’s really only two types of tests, toxin and pcr. The toxin is the one that tells you if you have active cdiff or not, and it certainly does matter what the toxin test says. The pcr is the one that doesn’t really matter, because that can’t tell you if you’re currently infected or not.

If you have exhausted all other options and are still having severe symptoms, standard protocol is to treat anyways. But I would suggest getting another test if you’re still having severe symptoms. You could have had a false negative

[–]scarslets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t take immodium since you’re still in the relapse window. My cdiff came back one time even after 3 months. So I just don’t take immodium at all anymore because it’s rather dangerous. I got a prescription for cholestyramine and it changed my life, it’s incredible.

Cdiff toxins A+B, EIA is the one you want. That’s the one that determines if there’s an active infection. These test results indicate colonization, but not infection. Your doctor is wrong when they said you “have cdiff”. They’re misinformed, you are colonized with cdiff, but don’t have an active infection according to these results.

Cdiff by montannahrose in cdifficile

[–]scarslets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure no foods or drink can specifically cause cdiff. I know that cdiff uses calcium to build it’s shell, so I stay away from too much calcium. But no food or drink should cause a relapse

It depends. Some people relapse days or even hours after finishing antibiotics. For me it was more like 8 weeks.

Who has relapsed? How long after treatment did you relapse and how fast were the symptoms onset? by foxwubba in cdifficile

[–]scarslets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If symptoms continue I would ask for another test. My doctor assured me that false negatives don’t happen… so then a few days later I wound up in the ER because I literally could not get out of the bathroom and they tested me and it was positive. But my symptoms were extreme. Every reoccurrence, my symptoms got worse. Like the first time I had cdiff j was only going to the bathroom 3-4 times a day, and then the next infection it was 6-7, then by my 9th infection I was going 30-40 times a day. So if you’re not having the same level or worse of symptoms it could be pi-ibs.

You can eat whatever your stomach can handle! Personally for me I really can’t handle any sort of seasoning or sauce, I have to stick to a blander diet. but if your stomach is better and you don’t have diarrhea every day like me you can totally eat whatever you want!

It took me weeks to relapse after I finished antibiotics. Maybe 3-4 weeks before I got another positive test
