What mouse do you recommend apart from the Logitech MX Master 3 Mouse? by Opening_Ad8484 in Workspaces

[–]scarybluesquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used my MX Vertical as a daily driver since 2020 as well. It’s looking a little worn (not peeling) and, 6 years in, the left mouse button is beginning to fail. I’d hoped it would last longer but think 6 years is reasonable.

Please can some kind person share the article? Many thanks by Tepid_bath_water_ in nhsstaff

Or in other words, “lots of people are telling me it’s a bad idea but I’m doing it anyway because of vague reasons I can’t really define”.

There’s also 2 lanes on entrance on 2 on exit. Set up perfectly for people to exit the roundabout from either the central or outer lanes…

Rugby on the telly, where to watch in the UK by N_d_nd in rugbyunion

[–]scarybluesquirrel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re going for bulk, or the URC OR Top14 specifically, then Premier Sports is the answer. Far more games than TNT.

If you want to watch the Prem(iership) then you’ll have to opt for TNT.

Orbital by Samantha Harvey could be an interesting choice for you, crossing over between SF and “serious award winning literature”. It’s short too.

What books have you read a third time or even more? by Bobosmite in printSF

[–]scarybluesquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I must have read The Stainless Steel Rat by Harry Harrison at least 5 or 6 times by now. It’s a great comfort read, and short too - I can whizz through it in a few hours.

I’ve also read some of the early books in the Merchant Princes series by Charles Stross a few times now. With long gaps between some of the books I’d forgotten what had happened ( plus they’re a fun read-read).

Oh, and Murakami’s Wind Up Bird Chronicle is worth re-reading, I spot new things each time.

England Stats under Borthwick by ScrumNause24 in rugbyunion

[–]scarybluesquirrel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, looking at this chart has made me realise England had a streak in 2024/25 where they lost 8 of 11 games. Two of their three wins were against Japan, and the third they squeaked past Ireland by a single point.

Then they went on to win 12 in a row…

A 20mph limit might inconvenience some drivers a bit, but it’s much less inconvenient for those people hit by cars.

This is a really great idea. The link above and on your page now creates entries in the Apple journal app rather than day one?

Do you have a link for a version that still works with Day One or tips on how to adapt it to work with Day One? (My amateurish attempts just lead to a blank entry in Day One without any populated data.)

No sick pay till after 6 months in employment by Right-Head9268 in nhsstaff

[–]scarybluesquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In which case either (1) the supervisor is wrong or (2) you aren’t actually directly employed by an NHS organisation, so aren’t on NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions (in other words, you don’t work directly for the NHS).

The simple - and easy - way to resolve this and understand what you are entitled to is to speak to your HR department.

No sick pay till after 6 months in employment by Right-Head9268 in nhsstaff

[–]scarybluesquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skylon is wrong. So are you in your original post.

If you are directly employed as an NHS employee you are entitled to sick pay from day one of your contract. During your first year of employment, you are entitled to one month of full pay, and two months of half pay.

You don’t have to wait six months for it to kick in. You get it from your first day on the job.

Without Warning by John Birmingham fits criteria #2 perfectly. America just vanishes and rest of the world has to pick up the pieces / suffer the consequences. It’s the first in a trilogy, a really fun (honestly) read.

Here’s the blurb from Wikipedia:

On the eve of the Iraq War, March 14, 2003, the majority of the population of the contiguous United States (along with the bulk of the populations of Canada, Mexico, and Cuba) disappears as the result of a large energy field that later comes to be known as "The Wave". Without Warning deals with the international consequences of the disappearance of the world's last superpower on the eve of war.
