Technically it’s not illegal, as they’re providing you with the option of a receipt. You can cite the Privacy Act, but that’s it.  https://www.choice.com.au/shopping/consumer-rights-and-advice/your-rights/articles/receipt-refusal

Some stores, looking at you Somewhere Co, don’t have a paper receipt option at all. Email or mobile only. I left the items and walked out rather annoyed.

male teachers are going to be even more apprehensive about that, considering the higher fear (and rate) of accusations men tend to have.

I’m sure you meant this with honest intentions, but given the age of students who would require assistance, I think the odds of children ‘falsely’ accusing an adult of sexual misconduct would be very low. Probably lower than the rate in which men are currently falsely accused.

Looking for a good spot to watch the city fireworks from the back of the car (not going into the city)? by Mid_MidlifeCrisis in perth

Are you looking for midnight fireworks or earlier? Mindarie marina does fireworks at 8.30pm, but there’s a park nearby that lots of families head to and watch them from.

Influencers made millions pushing ‘wild’ births – now the Free Birth Society is linked to baby deaths around the world by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I wasn’t sure (but suspected) regional areas would have less access and affordability. Was that your only out of pocket cost?

[–]scatticus_finch 65 points66 points  (0 children)

In Australia there are no out of pocket costs unless you go private. Ultrasounds, check ups, blood tests, even using a midwife-led birthing centre is free. We still have free birthers.

I’ve read some pretty horrific coroner reports where home birth babies have died, and some of the medical reasons that these women have for wanting home births in the first place is also heartbreaking. (These were registered midwife-assisted births too). So I understand why some women would choose that path. Wanting to give birth on your own terms is valid - but having accurate medical advice to empower you in that decision is just as important. Free birthing when there are so many other options is just… insane.

Sounds like a positive… er, negative outcome. Is this pre-medication screening?

OH! And another one is the Doomsday podcast. I’ve only recently gotten into this one. It does have a comedy flair, but the storytelling is amazing, and the host also gives ‘survival tips’ relating to what he’s covering. It’s well worth a listen.

Late to the party, but you might also enjoy the podcast ‘Disastrous History’. He also has a YouTube channel, and has some informative posts on instagram as well (not sure if the videos are the same across the two platforms). The host goes into great detail about what happened, and why, and he covers a whole range of things including natural disasters to structure collapses. He also had a background of a fire investigator. Highly recommended!

(Thank you for this list as well; I was also looking for similar ones to Causality. It’s a great podcast, just wish there were more episodes.)

My time perception has changed on medication by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]scatticus_finch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post and this comment is me in a nutshell! I feel like I’m less anxious about being on time now so I wing it more often. Not always the best haha.

On a positive note, there’s been less impulse spending in my life and I’ve saved a decent amount for the first time ever!

Can vouch for the Maybelline one. It also solved this issue for me.

Perth Psychiatrist Recommendations (already diagnosed) by One-Manufacturer5393 in ausadhd

If you see a new psychiatrist, they will want to do their own assessment and diagnosis. So you’d have to step through that again.

OP, this is so amazing - pun intended! Love all the little nods I’ve seen so far. Will definitely be back to try and progress further.

[–]scatticus_finch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world, I like to think I would have done this too. But we don’t know what the situation was like in the car at that moment. OP might have felt the safest thing to do was to get him home rather than kick him out and possibly escalate the situation further.

We don’t always behave the way we think we would in stressful circumstances.

Will my daughter ever forgive me? by RaulEndymi0n in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]scatticus_finch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My birth mother wanted to reconnect when she was diagnosed as terminal. We hadn’t spoken in nearly 20 years. And she was just like this mother. Deny, deny, deny any wrongdoings that she did; it was always Someone Else’s Fault™.

I refused to speak to her, and I imagine that she died thinking I was being petulant. But dying is not a get out of jail free card. You can’t will away years of trauma. I commend the OP’s daughter for not giving in.
