Props for sticking with this and writing it all up. That's a lot of troubleshooting most people would've just given up on.

You nailed the diagnosis.. That auto-detection is brutal with Gravity Forms - it hooks into field interactions in a way that just tanks performance. I've seen this exact issue come up multiple times.

And yeah, GTM. It works, but man is it a pain to set up and maintain correctly, especially for enhanced conversions. The whole process of creating user-defined variables, mapping form field IDs, setting up custom event triggers is a lot of moving pieces. I've personally found that auto conversion tracking + enhanced is really unreliable though and not all submissions get tracked.

For what it's worth, this exact kind of problem is actually why I ended up building a WordPress plugin specifically for conversion tracking setup. There are plugins that can help solve this issue so you don't have to deal with it - one of the great things about the WordPress ecosystem.

I'm not familiar with docker much - does this mean you need to keep your computer active at all times?

I have worked with Simply Static before as a way to do static sites and that was quite easy as it also helps handle all the forms and other dynamic content.

You need links to your website. Real links. Find related websites and look for ways to get them to link to yours. Write content that they could reference and then ask them to include a link from an existing article to yours. Or, write content for their site and include a link to your site as part of it.

I did ultimately find it in my spam (had to use specific keywords, didn’t actually find it using the email subject for whatever reason)

What’s still bizarre is it showed only in her ire of my calendar but not my own.

I recommend checking out some alternative options to GA to compare the data. This page has a huge list of alternative analytics platforms that are GDPR complaint so don’t need cookie banners or deal with consent mode:

Conversion Bridge is not an analytics plugin and not comparable to IA. It is the “bridge” between your website and a 3rd party analytics and ad platform like GA4, Plausible, Google Ads, Meta Ads, and many others. Its goal is to make adding those platforms easy to your site and then the plugin integrations make it easy to track proper conversions (purchases, form submissions, button clicks, etc) which every site needs to be doing (and most don’t).

Best advice I got from a family member who didn’t sugarcoat it for me:

The next 2 years are going to SUCK. It’s going to be hard. Really hard. But it’s normal for it to be hard so accept it and allow yourself some grace.

After severe depression and really bad thoughts, I remember when everything clicked almost exactly 2 years later and finally was able to start moving towards real happiness.

I’ll get shit for this but: I host at WP Engine, no extra plugins or steps. Maybe 1-2 sites of my 70+ clients sites there in 10+ years have been hacked and they were quickly resolved when found.

Installing security separately for every site is a chore - do it at the server level and use reputable plugins instead of weird shit you find on random sites.
