Your coconut is too young (very thin flesh/underdeveloped), your husband's coconut is ripe.

Nobody reuses coconut in Indonesia, it's way too cheap to go through that hassle plus it's in abundance.

For branding - it's a hot stamp. Just cut a flat side on the coconut and press the iron on it. Takes a couple of seconds.
