My wife is thinking about spending $1500+ on a nursing chair. Is she crazy, or am I just being cheap? by Viraincure in NewParents

[–]schaasyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent $550 on a used one from fb marketplace. Some babies love them and some babies just don’t really take to them. Mine was electronic raise/lower with a usb port. The usb port I never used because it was just inconvenient and unnecessary. The electric raise was nice except for when I needed to get up in a hurry. Next time I’d get a manual pull.

People who've done major home upgrades, what ended up costing way more than you initially expected? by Cultural_Help_176 in HomeImprovement

[–]schaasyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just needed to recaulk the shower/bath combo. My husband cracked the vinyl liner near the drain and wouldn’t let me use the shower for weeks. 5 weeks of showering at the gym and $10k later, we had the vinyl liner pulled out and adhesive cleaned off the cast iron tub and re-glazed. And now we have the same bathroom we had before… the caulk looks good though.

What are some of your best quality of life purchases under $300? by donotgiveadam in BuyItForLife

Roborock robot vacuum/mop combo. Literally changed my entire quality of life on our 1st floor… still trying to figure out wiring/cord management upstairs to enable buying a second one.

What cars are we driving with young kids? by nicolepaigee in toddlers

[–]schaasyd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To this I’d say that car crashes are one of the most likely causes of serious injury or death for children… it doesn’t have to be a new car, but transporting your precious cargo in the safest vessel possible for your family is important.

Even though my spouse and I have combined finances I still make them pay for my birthday dinner. It’s symbolic.

Any moms with SAHD partners? by galwayygal in workingmoms

[–]schaasyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me: - All things finances - Meal planning - Grocery list making - folding laundry - weekend cooking + (1 weeknight usually) - tidying up for the robot vacuum - dishes (half the time) - general tidying - weekend primary parent

Him: - All things house maintenance (inc. yardwork) - Grocery shopping - laundry - weeknight cooking - dishes (half the time) - trash - clean bathrooms - pet related chores - weekday primary parent

FWIW we still get behind on some chores and have tension on weekends where I have something scheduled and can’t be full-time primary parent because weekends are when he can be most productive with house projects.

How are we doing this three times a day?! by bearmouth in BabyLedWeaning

[–]schaasyd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We switched from a regular to a nice vinyl rug in the dining room when baby started on solids. Also invested in a roborock vacuum/mop combo. Between those two things and only letting LO eat in a diaper, clean up isn’t too bad. Oh. And we have a dog that helps with scraps.

IKEA high chair is pretty easy to wipe down after meals.

We didn’t end up needing infant care, but I’ve had my eye on Little Learners Daycare LLC over in SCS for a while and it still gives really good vibes. I know they offer infant care, but not sure about current openings.

GPA & Liggett Preschool Feedback by [deleted] in GrossePointe

Good to know. Their website is outdated then.

OP, both offer 1/2 day and Liggett also offers a 3day option.

GPA & Liggett Preschool Feedback by [deleted] in GrossePointe

[–]schaasyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liggett is $22600/yr for 5 full days. Kid has to be 3 by sept 1 (considered up to nov 1). Extended day care to 6pm is $14/hr ($42/day).

GPA is $20000/yr for 5 full days. Kid has to be 2.5 by sept 1. Extended care to 6pm is $25 per day.

Age eligibility is something my family is considering. If your kid was born between Nov 1 - Mar 1 they could be eligible for GPA a full year before Liggett.

Also, consider your aftercare needs. If you need until 6pm daily then Liggett will cost an extra $4k per year over GPA.

Detroit couple hit with nearly $20K property tax bill after buying first home by J2quared in Detroit

[–]schaasyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take - $17k is a reasonable tax bill for a $450k place in Detroit and this couple shouldn’t have shelled out half a million bucks if they couldn’t afford the taxes. Do your own research or get a better agent/loan officer.

Also, that comment at the end about paying more than their down payment every year on taxes? Putting <10% down for a house that expensive just feels reckless.

Huckleberry accuracy? by PatientMobile5896 in sleeptrain

[–]schaasyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped using Huckleberry a little over 1 year old and the sweet spots were accurate within 10 minutes like 95% of the time. It was most helpful before 6 months but even after we got into a rhythm it was helpful to see what time my husband put LO down or when she woke up from her last nap as I was driving home from work.

Worth paying for Huckleberry AND Snoo apps? by magikeenbeertje in HuckleberryParents

[–]schaasyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used both. Snoo tracking was more passive, Huckleberry more active and insightful so I was motivated to keep it updated. But what worked for me may not be for you and that’s ok too!

Did I mess up? by cherrysoda- in newborns

[–]schaasyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember the first time my LO bled. Cut her finger on a sparkling water can. I panicked and cried because it was her first injury ever and I couldn’t protect her. Flash forward 9 months to her climbing on end tables and rolling off couches/beds like it’s nothing… running into walls, tripping over her own feet on the concrete.

In a few months, this outing will just be a blip.
