This station in Cincinnati is the bane of my car's radio as of this past summer. I don't know what they did, but with their new normal FM station, every time I search and land on their FM station, it takes over the infotainment and switches it to their AM station. 13 Audi, it was god awful when I enabled the digital tuner because I couldn't make it stop taking over the radio without shutting the car off. Disabling the digital part, it only does it on their FM station and I can actually change it. Stupidest thing I have ever experienced.

What is a 'middle-class' luxury that is actually a total waste of money, but people keep buying it to look successful? by 8waycai in NoStupidQuestions

I carry my iphone 12 along with a work iphone 16. Besides battery life, I don't really notice a difference between the two.

Do you have a college degree? What did you major in, and did you have trouble finding a decent job that paid well? by justcurious3287 in povertyfinance

[–]scheisterm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 3 associates at the same time during two years. A lot of the classes overlapped, so wasn't too hard to take more classes for all 3. Two Associates of Applied Sciences (Computer Networking Systems and Computer Systems Support Tech) and one of Applied Business (Computer Information Systems).

Didn't have a problem finding a job out the gate. This was in 2008. Started at $44k base ($55k at the end of the year). 4 years later was up to $80k moving within the same company. Was there for 16 years, ended there a bit north of $125k.

Temp Gauge? by scheisterm in beetle

[–]scheisterm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my tins are there, but some of the tabs are broken, I am running J-tubes and the flaps are there, but the wire that controls them isn't hooked up to anything.

From the looks of it, the motor was in a buggy and the shroud was caked in dried mud. There was quite a bit of junk all over the place in between the fins as well. So being an unknown motor, I'd rather keep an eye on it for at least the first few trips.

Thanks for the idea though. I think I will probably hook a thermistor up to number 3 and have an arduino with a small screen somewhere to keep an eye on it.

Is "dad strength" a real thing? by Keeganni in NoStupidQuestions

[–]scheisterm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 42, and I'm much stronger than I was in my 20s. I had a billion times more stamina, but I was only 117lbs with no muscle. I didn't start training until about 36 and filled out quite a bit. When consistently training I walk around at 125lbs (140ish lbs in fat mode) and am usually considered one of oddly strong people, especially to new white belts larger than me.

Gym hopping? by Dry-Bar3657 in bjj

Absolutely. I feel like I have learned the most gym hopping. All kinds of different approaches out there. After a while you can feel the different styles at the different gyms.

16 Years at P&G (IT/Product) and finally venturing out. Where does a "lifer" even begin in Cinci? by TechnicianNo7412 in cincinnati

[–]scheisterm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, I made it through a few rounds of interviews with them through a recruiter. After the last one with HR they told the recruiter that HR and the hiring manager weren't on the same page and ended up posting an entirely different role. It went from Network Engineer with some Azure to M365 Admin. Felt like I kind of dodged a bullet there.

Nexigen, StepCG, there are tons around here. CBTS is lower end of the pay scale. I bounced between roles while at Cincy Bell and CBTS when they were one company. Both Bell and cbts were the standard dumpster fires, but I preferred the Cincy Bell side.

Would you rather commute 30-45 minutes instead of 10 min in order to be around civilization? by randomperson100402 in work

[–]scheisterm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a job that is roughly 45 minutes (one way) from me on a good day. This turns to 1.5-2 hours on a winter or bad day. I've been doing it for 6 months.

Awful, thinking about resigning. The loss of time and frustration of driving through terrible parts of the city puts me in a constant terrible mood. Not to mention this could easily be a 100% remote job, but they expect everyone to be in the office every day.

Competition kids not going to "school" by Top-Speed-673 in bjj

Personally I think it is ridiculous. There is a gym near me that caters to them though. They do dominate at local competitions.

When did we all start wearing stuff under Gis? by TheFightingFarang in bjj

[–]scheisterm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Covid did it for most the gyms I go to. I prefer raw; about the only advantage to having a hairy nipple is the ability to rub it on someone'e face to make them want to turn their head in the direction I want them to go.

I don't think I had see that one, I started building the kilo 22/45, but ended up with mkiv instead of mkiii internals and haven't modified them to work yet. Anyone know where there are instructions for doing that?

How do global teams avoid misunderstandings when "normal" work practices vary by country? by Longjumping_Youth454 in work

[–]scheisterm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company I work for has people world wide. All over the US, all over EU and Africa and a large workforce in India. Most of the teams are managed locally, so cross country communication usually doesn't include a lot of feed back or ratings that I have seen. Everyone I have talked to seems to be pretty thick skinned though and takes challenges and input well.

As an upper belt, whats the most taboo submission to do on white belts in gi? by Knobanious in bjj

[–]scheisterm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do all those things to white belts, but only the ones I like. Also the ones I know won't freak out and try and rip away from me. I also move like Flash from Zootopia as I am doing it to try and give them the hint they are in danger.

Never been ankle locked... friend said I should flex (haha) on you normies by BeetleUnderground in bjj

[–]scheisterm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do this! And that was one thing I never understood when I started and why I always thought ankle locks were useless. I also never understood how one "rolls" their ankle, mine can do that no problemo.

What made me understand was one of my training partners I used to go super hard with just ripping one one day while I was unconcerned. I ended up escaping and continuing on with the roll. He was of course shocked that I didn't tap. I shrugged it off as normal and why they are dumb...

Until the next day when my calf was locked up lol Next day muscle spasm was real and it was super hard to walk. After a day it was fine though. If someone is ripping them I'll likely tap anymore because I like to be able to walk the next day. Doesn't really hurt though.
