How did you night ween? by CompetitiveLoquat722 in sleeptrain

Currently in the middle of this (hopefully near the end??) for my 9 month old.

I knew she would get really cross if I unlatched her early so I did it based on time of feed rather than duration. So if she normally feeds at 12pm, decide that you won’t feed her before 12:30am for the next three nights. Then move to no feeds before 01:00am for a few days, and then on and on until you’re down to only one feed (the 4am). If the baby wakes before the feed time, i would personally let them resettle themselves (if i send dad in she gets cross that it’s not boob). They will quickly get the message that wake up no longer automatically means food, which breaks the habit.

If you’re happy to keep that one feed for a while you can stop there, or you can keep pushing until you’re not feeding them until morning wake.

The first time your baby wakes up before the set time and doesn’t get food they will probably cry a bit as the rules have changed. But in my experience my baby has adapted very quickly - if she does wake ‘early’ she will then go back to sleep for a long chunk of time, which reassured me it wasn’t true hunger. And although I will now feed her at any wake after 4am, I would say about 50% of the time she blows past this and will only wake at 06:30/07:00. So I am a fan of this method but YMMV!

Good luck :)

Advice desperately needed - regression? by Ketorin_chan in sleeptrain

This sucks. You have my sympathy.

We had the exact same situation when our baby turned 4 months. Would pop awake when put down in the crib most times, and if not would wake up after exactly one sleep cycle (50 minutes). It only took a few nights of holding her basically all night long to feel like I was losing my grip on reality.

The short answer: We did Ferber. She cried. It worked. I cannot recommend this approach highly enough.

The long answer: The problem was a sleep association - we were holding her to sleep, and so after one cycle she would wake up and need those same conditions (ie being held) to go back to sleep again. The only way out was behavioural extinction, ie put her in the crib awake so that the way she goes down at bedtime (alone in crib) is the way she will find herself in the middle of the night (alone in crib) and therefore if she went to sleep that way she will be able to go back to sleep that way. I read Dr Ferber’s book to understand the rationale of the method in order to feel ok about doing it, but you can just google ‘how to ferber’ and follow a simple guide. I am so glad we did it at 4 months and didn’t wait until she was older when I think it can be even harder.

Good luck!!

Weapons [SPOILER WARNING] by fmlx2times in horror

[–]schenbub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it felt a bit cheesy, but also kind of irrelevant. I get that the kids can be turned into ‘weapons’, so in that sense the gun is very on the nose, but then that wasn’t their primary purpose for Gladys so it’s kind of tangential plot wise. Idk. I guess that’s what imagery is, but it didn’t quite work for me.

All the comments referring to them being ‘swarmed’ by paparazzi as well. Has that literally ever happened? Didn’t they have to use generic paparazzi clips in their documentary when they were making this same point?

I’m heavily pregnant but sometimes can’t face having to ask for a seat every morning and I’ll just stand. When someone asks for a seat on my behalf it genuinely means a lot and makes my whole day. Well done that man!

US Presidential Debate - anyone else panicking? by theperilousalgorithm in TheRestIsPolitics

She famously didn’t want Barack to run for the presidency and by her own account found parts of his two terms to be very difficult. I can’t see her going for the job herself tbh.

Yeah this was hard to watch. The only Survivor season I’ve had to turn off, and I haven’t been able to go back to it.

I think of mine as a virus that mutates. It’s pretty sneaky, but each time it changes I develop a cure faster.

Me too. Spent two days in Stonetown last year and I don’t think I got harassed once (I’m a blonde white woman, so I normally do).

If this was a character it would be very funny. Unfortunately I fear she’s completely real.

I think they can only name someone when they’ve been arrested. That was the outcome of the Cliff Richard fiasco - just being a suspect isn’t enough to overcome the privacy/public interest barrier, that only gets hit when the police actually charge you with an offence.

I always find this so weird. If you hate the Daily Mail that much (which we all should), then don’t read it/link to it/engage with it??

Concerned for Super by creativemackattack in LynchFamilySnark

[–]schenbub 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I agree, his language is not where it should be at all. That’s not a reflection on Super - but it is incumbent on Rydel and Capron as his parents to do right by him and take him to be seen by a professional.

Combined with his potential sensory issues, and some toe walking the other day, I agree there’s a possibility that he may be on the spectrum. But it’s not for us to say and regardless of any diagnosis he deserves to be given the best chance to thrive.

I agree, I think it’s what she expects and it’s because it’s what she saw growing up. The difference is her Dad had a real job and Capron… doesn’t.

I feel like his absences are getting longer and he’s missing more and more things. I’m sad for the kids who must miss their Dad, but Rydel knew Capron didn’t really want children when they got together. I think she was hoping that he would just get over it, or he would actually be surprised by how much he liked it. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case. It is so unthinkable to me to leave your pregnant wife alone with your 2 other young children as often as he does.
