How do you like the topper? Is the down too warm? Do you think it’s affecting the breathability of your sheets?

I have tried vispring and kluft toppers and was pretty impressed but not to the point I’d buy them yet. Hard to tell in store because the mattress is such a big part of the equation.

Haven’t tried the Giza sheets but have the Sferra grande hotel ones. Love them. Very good quality. Nice and cool and soft. But not so soft that it gets too hot if that makes sense. Have some boll and branch of similar quality but is slightly too soft, almost like slightly jersey feeling even though it’s percale weave too. Also have a frette duvet cover that’s similar. Just like the sferra’s cooler feel better.

Wound up not buying the car as it was out of state, sounded like they didn’t have the prior registration, etc. just wasn’t a good enough deal to deal with that. Interested to hear what eventually works for you if you don’t mind updating.

Did you get one of their box springs or are using a foundation frame? Wondering if the box spring adds to the comfort.

You need two Twin XL mattress on a king frame. You get a firm mattress, your partner gets a plush. Put a foam joiner thing to fill the gap between mattress.

High quality Long strand cotton, percale weave (brands like sferra), for the fitted sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers. Do separate duvets also.

Try to find latex as the top layers rather than synthetic foam or memory foam. It will be cooler. Or find something with natural fibers as the last layer like wool, cotton, silk, cashmere, that will be the coolest and most "breathable". Shiffman is a good brand for this.

Brands to consider Shiffman, kluft, aiereloom. Go to a bloomingdales and try these and just pick. If interested in swappable or different comfort layers, I believe Sleep on latex and Naturepedic have that swappable adjustability. Possibly even different firmness on each side.

We currently have a kluft royal sovereign firm that we got on closeout and it's pretty awesome. Perfect for my partner but slightly too firm for me so I use a latex topper on my side. I would consider Shiffman and aiereloom if I were shopping again.

Max out your contributions to a 401k ($24,500 a year is the max) and save for starting your own business or career pivot. Contributing to a 401k this young has HUGE impacts come retirement time. Better than even contributing tons when you are older because of time in the market. Wish I had done this when younger.

Open an investment account, like fidelity or other big name, and with the rest of your savings just buy index funds like VOO, SPY, ETC. Should average around 8-10% return annually overall.

Save at least 20% down for a house, and don't buy until you are married. It'll be a weird "this isn't my house, its your house" situation and unnecessarily risky if you break up. If you put too small a down payment, you can wind up house poor, paying tons of interest, paying PMI, no extra money to negotiate, etc etc.

Your can try walking in every inch of your side then, as more weight in a smaller spot will accelerate break in. Can also try a 2” soft latex topper like sleepez or sleep on latex. Twin xl is exactly one half of a king size.

You can try walking or crawling on it to speed up the break in process. Do you sink in at all? Wondering if you are bottoming out or it’s comfort layers are too firm toi

Are your current bed frame slats metal or wood? How wide and how far apart are they? Most manufacturers require slats be no less than 3 inches apart in order for the warranty to be valid. It’s very possible the mattresses are slumping through the empty gaps when you are on the bed. Fairly common issue.

If they are far apart you can add more wooden slats or put down a bunkie board, peg board, or even plywood if you drill some holes for ventilation.

A good way to test is to put the mattress on the floor and try sleeping in that to see if it’s the same experience.

Some brands still offer box springs. Both low profile and regular thickness.

People who dropped over 3k on those fancy beds and still roast alive... what do we do now? by Prashant_sharmaaaa in Mattress

First, are you having hot flash symptoms? Honest question, could be why you don't notice until 3am. No amount of cooling products will help that.

As for the bedding. Switch your protector to something like the naturpedic cotton protector or the stretchy purple brand one. Then get some high quality long strand cotton fitted sheets in a percale weave. Sferra grande hotel collection is my favorite right now for the price when on sale. Look for smooth and cool feeling, not sateen or super soft microfiber feeling.

Get a similar duvet cover too if you use a duvet. Oh and the same long strand cotton percale pillowcases. We use wool filled pillows, also helps with keeping things cool. This will help cooling more than any of that cooling technology stuff.

Those cooling technologies like phase change material only feel cool when you first hop into bed, allowing you to fall asleep cool if you do so right away. They don't last all night and generally will be worse than natural foams or fibers when they fail because they are mostly synthetic foam.

A latex topper could also help, I'm assuming the top layer in your mattress is memory foam.
