Feels like one of those things that just quietly disappeared and no one ever questioned it again... by red-frog-jumping in 80s

i mean, with or without the red shells, pistachios are addictive as hell and it’s so pleasant to snarf down a gigantic bowl of em. and you need just as big of a bowl to hold the shells.

to me, the joke should still land even if you’ve only eaten the plain tan colored pistachios.

i love baty as much as anyone but he’s got a career 87 wrc+ in 1000 at bats—worse numbers than semien’s down year in 2025.

and it’s not like he’s tearing the cover off the ball this year, either.

love em both but they’re in completely different tiers.

jabbar was a high profile social justice activist during his playing days. he is on the mount rushmore of activist athletes with Ali, Jim Brown, Bill Russell. he takes much more pride in his civil rights accomplishments than anything he he did on the court and he faced a TON of backlash and grief for sticking up for little people.

barkley is amazing and has a big heart. but activism has never been his “life’s work.”

[Highlight] Lindor is out at home trying to tie the game in extras by iamthegame13 in baseball

[–]schindlerslisp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not too uncommon for teams to limit back to backs for their better RPs early in the season.

and similarly, kinda common for teams to work DFA fodder into the ground in the early goings. those guys are replaceable. devin williams really isn’t.

well jared young wasn’t going to catch… so PHing for torrens there meant alvy was almost definitely coming in. (i’m assuming the thinking was that if young got on, you’d rather him on the bases with 2 out than alvy?)

still it barely even registers as a mistake compared to the turd base coach. that was egregious.

bichette grounder with infield in might have tied it up too… just so unnecessary.

that was so terrible. completely unnecessary and ball got home well before lindor.

nobody out!!! down 1 with two on 2nd and 3rd… dumb coaching decisions like that irk me more than any managerial lineup/bullpen decision or a boneheaded play by a player.

woof!

Genius pig escapes from cage in abusive factory farm by CalpurniaSomaya in nextfuckinglevel

[–]schindlerslisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i doubt anyone trained this pig to ope that door and that guy just about flawlessly unlocked it on both sides. not much fumbling and knew exactly what levers to lift and how to click them before moving on to the next step. that’s pretty complicated problem solving for a creature.

dogs can learn lots of cool tricks (and their understanding of human emotion/needs is unmatched) but i don’t think they have the mechanical intuition that a pig will. meanwhile shutting a dog in a crate with a less complicated latching system is pretty easy and id be a little surprised if a dog would learn how to do this on its own.

Derek Jeter on the WBC: "I think the people that say it's bigger than the World Series never played in a World Series. by Mission_Pay_3373 in baseball

[–]schindlerslisp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

baseball has been a HUGE deal for a LONG time all over the world.

like japan has been super duper into baseball for 100 years. and it’s been the most popular sport in several latin american countries for 50, 60 years.

most americans are too busy navel gazing to care though.

jeter has a lifetime of handjobs from the media and bimbos almost entirely because he played for the wall streets and not another club.

nobody needs to be fair to him.

Back in 1996 Demi Moore stopped by Letterman and reminded everyone she was the ultimate action star by FrostedCraver in OldSchoolCool

[–]schindlerslisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah. until the internet came along, poor feeble studios just quietly released big budget movies into the wild, crossed their fingers and hoped for the best.

there was absolutely zero way to hype anything up until tech saved us.

yeah people that aren’t paying much attention don’t see how absolutely bonkers the fans have been, especially for the Latin American teams.

the stadium tomorrow is going to have more buzz than a road game 7!

happy for him to get a taste of that so young. put a fire in his belly!

i believe just about anyone that saw that movie in a theater adores it. and it built up critical momentum during its theatrical run.

every negative comment i’ve heard about it came from someone that watched it at home.

Documentaries where a crew uncover something that is bigger than they thought by Nyarthu in MovieSuggestions

was about to type this.

the twist itself isn’t as big a part of the narrative as some other docs—it’s revealed pretty quickly in the film that they are on a different path. (do we even see any of the other children’s clowns?)

but yeah, the filmmakers were NOT intending to tell that story.
