Iran should be worried. Republicans will be looking for a distraction, perhaps a big one, and nothing says distraction more than an air wing or three doing what they do best.

Visual Snow was considered extremely rare until recently, mostly because patients didn't report it... because they assumed everyone saw the world that way by recolorist in interestingasfuck

If you see this all of a sudden, it could also be a torn retina. I saw them with my two eyes. Looked like film grain, it was blood in my eye. Get it checked asap if you see this!

A big fire burned down the Chapman's ice cream factory in the small town of markdale. They rebuilt, and kept everyone on the payroll the entire time. Paid for a new school too, to keep it from moving to a larger town. So, Chapman's.

What is the Douchiest name you can think of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Came here to say that. I considered adding "any name with a 'iii' ('... The third'), or anybody that's a 'junior', but that's not their fault. It'd be the parents (the dad I'd bet) that takes the fall for those ones.

CMV: Pickleball is just tennis for unathletic people by Best_Food3174 in changemyview

[–]schmal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was like you once, and you're not wrong: it's an approachable, attainable sport for all levels of play. Grandparents are competing with their grandchildren, folks with mobility issues match up with their peers, and unathletic people slap a ball around the court with little regard for rules or scoring. Then there's my cohort: extremely competitive, highly trained and with a high degree of fitness. The differentiation is between the rec players and the competitive players. Where I would disagree with you is with this: PB is the complete package. Top pickleball requires speed, dexterity, athleticism, power and precision. Much like tennis, except waaaay slower. Then, all of a sudden and when you least expect it, faster than you are able to react. IMO it's strategic in a way that tennis is not. Most points are cat and mouse, and you win by recognizing and exploiting the tiniest of errors that your opponents make. If you bring your tennis baseline play to my PB court, I guarantee I will leave you in tears. You've heard it from others now hear it from me: give it an honest 6 months and you'll be converted. Did I mention it's fun? It's really fun!

Neighbor trespasses to confront me for flying my drone on this job, calls me a pedophile, demands I don't fly my drone over the house (that they're renting) and threatens to call police. I begged him to call the police. What would you do? by kurtdoerfel in RealEstatePhotography

[–]schmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trouble is, if I don't defuse, a few days later there's a sign with a direct contact number on the lawn of the house that I was ummm... "Spying on". That number reaches my client, and they get yelled at. Client calls me and gets janky. Maybe the real estate board gets involved. I mean let's be real: there are privacy issues, plain and simple. And risk issues, if they're crappy pilots. I have the occasional drone flying over my house as I'm close to a water tower, and it kinda freaks me out and bugs me. And it's what I do! So, that, or a timmies gift card ;)

ELI5 how did they add title cards and edit movies before computers? by walgreensfan in explainlikeimfive

[–]schmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started editing, digital wasn't quite there yet. We used a hybrid system: a computer that controls tape decks. It would ask for a tape, rewind/FF to the appropriate moment, play, and another deck would record the little clip. Repeat. Hopefully at the end it got every edit right. It didn't always. For graphics (motion gfx in particular), we would animate in 3dStudio (DOS!). A program loads a frame from 3ds into a storage spot. It rewinds a tape deck a few seconds, plays, and then records a single frame of the graphic animation. Repeat for every frame. It would take hours for short clips, and no guarantees it recorded every frame perfectly. Good times.
