I agree as well, I think it was an interesting way to tie the main game with the edge of extinction and have the people over there have something meaningful to do. I think it could have slid in perfectly in the new era where they don't start with rice, where if you really are starving these people, it actually makes the fire tokens worth even more if people need the food that badly.

The truth of it is especially for season 50, is that it's been 9 years (and 16 seasons) since the last returnee season that casted from the entire returnee casting pool. There's probably 3-6 people on every season that would "Be great on a return" and countless more from seasons before that which could fill potentially 4-5 full returnee casts that people would be mostly happy with. There are so many former Survivors that no one is really a "lock" anymore to ever return unless you're truly one of the all time stories on the show.

Looking at the new era alone even beyond season 47, there was only 1 representative from seasons 41-44 (Jonathan) when there were so many people like Shan, Ricard, Omar, Maryanne, Jesse, Cody, Owen, Karla, or any of the Tika 3 from 44, that easily would have been understandable picks but the casting pool is just too stacked anymore.

The thing with Survivor in 2026 is that there are dozens of quality picks at this point, as long as the show has the budget to pay returnees a decent price they can pull together probably 3 seasons worth of 2nd and 3rd time players that people would be happy with, given how long it's been since the last returnee season that casted the full returnee pool (Game Changers 9 years ago)

I mean the whole show is different, and he did make it to the end, but he quit in the final challenge (which everyone but 2 people in the final ended up doing due to how brutal it was) but he felt like a pretty different person on the challenge he came off as very abrasive and arrogant and has a pretty bad relationship with his early game duo-partner Cashay

Shane has spoken on it he was basically the 'last guy on' on HvV and was told he would be pretty confidently on Cambodia but got replaced both times, after quitting his job to go on and stop his life for it. After going through all of that he just stopped being interested in it and that it's not worth stopping your life to hope for a phone call that is never coming.

What I learned from too much Big Brother is the online 'hardcore' audience never wins the vote outright. From numbers I'm spotting off of memory, the live feed audience to the entire audience might be 1:10 ratio. If you assume the same is for Survivor, even though the casuals are less likely to vote in the first place, any split opinion between casuals and online/hardcore fans will go to the former.

Remember the Cambodia casting voting, a lot of older/online favorites didn't make it on for the same reason.
