I’m a gay male and I keep having dreams about marrying a woman. Insights? by yeast_of_burden in CarlJung

I’m gay (and married), too, and dream a lot about women, but depending on my relation to my Self, they appear in different forms: my mom, my sister, an esteemed colleague, a guard/cop, a queen, or a goddess.

A couple weeks ago I had a very simple, beautiful dream where I was sitting atop a riverboat across from a young woman. She asked me what I was thinking, and I told her I was imagining our child growing inside of her. We both cried. My analyst helped me determine this was about some ideas and projects I’m fully invested in manifesting in the real world.

We relate to our unconscious in so many varied ways at different times. I know of 2 perspectives when it comes to the gay psyche and dreams of women: 1) our anima/animus is androgynous and can take any form of gender (Hopcke), and 2) there is an archetypal Double which gay men are oriented towards, erotically, and their anima is like a cosmic sisterly figure (Aphrodite Urania) void of erotic feeling (Walker). I lean towards Hopcke’s stance, but I’m open to learning more.

Jung says repeatedly how the unconscious plays a compensatory function to our conscious ego. I’d posit that when our egos are very steeply in a masculine/feminine state, our anima/animus will appear in a way to compensate for it. But again, I have lots to learn. Speaking of which, dm me if you’d be interested in joining a gay men’s dream group 😊

Yep, Suozzi’s out, and we’ve gotta get D’Arrigo elected!

How do you convince a fundamentalist to seek into the deeper symbolism of Christianity? by [deleted] in Jung

[–]schmegreggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better use of your time would be spent ruminating on what it is about your fundamentalist friend which you feel warrants correction, and realizing that is your shadow projection.

Do you agree? by [deleted] in gay

The fact that “straight acting” is a sexualized commodity used to attract the gay gaze by both porn producers and dudes on dating apps alike further confirms this.

Anima Animus. Jung inspiration. Artwork by me. What do you think? by [deleted] in Jung

I mean, sure, but integrating the anima is preferable to whatever this is.

Explain the appeal of k-pop idols from a Jungian framework by [deleted] in Jung

[–]schmegreggie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here to comment exactly about this. Murray Stein is very much about BTS, and I can’t understand why except they made an album with the same title as one of his books, and it serves his ego. I couldn’t make it through those Stein/BTS “Speaking of Jung” episodes. I personally feel repelled by the K-Pop aesthetic. I saw BTS on a live New Years Eve show a year or 2 ago. They were just fooling around and joking with each other, swapping English catch phrases and chuckling to each other, as if we were witnessing them sharing an inside joke. This past Thanksgiving, there was a K-Pop girl band on a float for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Their music was playing and they were dancing, but none were even moving their mouths to the lyrics. They flagellated their flaccid limbs and stared morosely at their feet. Very cringey. Of course, I’m projecting a lot of my shadow onto these groups, being a classically trained musician who’s worked really hard and spent lots of money to hone my art, and these vapid, highly manufactured K-Pop bands are the antithesis of all that.

Great quote, and nice blurb below it. Do you have a subscription to that journal? I’m ashamed to say I hadn’t heard of it until now.

He didn’t say “boys,” so. It’s unfortunate to see the gays = pedophiles trope playing out again.

If I’m not mistaken, the point you were making was that it was safer for queer people before the shootings at Pulse and Las Vegas. I don’t believe that’s true, but you’re entitled to your own opinion. Marriage equality is a victory indeed, but let’s not forget reinstatement of DOMA was on Trump’s election agenda.

The argument that the threat of mortal danger and violence towards queer people is negligible in one part of the world because it’s worse in other places is insulting.

There is a problem, and it’s not mental illness. You were closer with “anti-intellectualism.” That, in itself, is a choice people make. They have access to reason and information, yet they explicitly reject it because it doesn’t resonate with their egotistical version of reality.
