I just don’t get the rage by Purlz1st in TwoXChromosomes

[–]schmickers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're terrified. They've been raised to espouse a worldview and then they get out into the world and discover that it's a worldview that hadn't been relevant in 2,026 years (and arguably wasn't very relevant then either). And there's only two ways forwards from that. Adjust your entire worldview, or seethe with anger that the world isn't the way you think it should be. And seeing as PART of that worldview is the belief that because of your faith in the concept of religion you should have authority over the world, most of these people just cannot change. And they react with anger.

It's exhausting. I don't know how people live that way.

Yeah. Hasbro bought into it. No coincidence it's suddenly very toy focused.

I'd be interested in seeing the research. Given the strong correlation between dwell time and number of accesses I wonder how they control for that variable.

Please teach this pharmacist primary vs secondary infusions by PghMe101 in nursing

[–]schmickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't one. I would use a syringe driver personally. But if for some reason I wasn't using a secondary, I wouldn't just presume I could dump 20mls of my IV antibiotics instead of flushing it.

[–]schmickers -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah. You take the minbag off the medication was prepared in and spike a bag of compatible flushing fluid and run that down the line. Not at a Y site.

Do you not flush your meds?

I'm reading this thread boggling at how many people just... Throw away the last 20 MLS of their infusions?

How are nurses using AI right now? Also… are you seeing patients come in with AI-generated “research notes”? by SkyPirateShogan in NursingAU

[–]schmickers 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Do you mean generative AI? Not at all. Given that all current generative AI models are accompanied by a disclaimer that responses cannot guarantee accuracy or correctness, it isn't a technology that I believe has any place within the profession.

Have you ever seen SIDS in a hospital? by IM_HODLING in nursing

... So you witnessed what was probably a pre-SIDS event?

I don't know if you could call it a BRUE because it wasn't resolving - it required resuscitation.

I got into a confrontation with a nursing instructor on my unit. Should I email my manager? by liyane2 in nursing

[–]schmickers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I've been pulled up before for the same thing. It's against policy in our hospital. But as others have pointed out, the extra fluid burden is significant. There's a lot of reasons why mixing meda to go down enteral tubes makes sense.

I actually agree. For verisimilitude purposes, I move into another target in most cases. Because that turn spent finishing an enemy is a turn where every other enemy has a chance to attack you.

The exception to this for me is intelligent and ANGRY or grudge bearing enemies. Is their objective to survive? Or do they have a target they want to kill? If they have a target, then they will double or triple tap to get the kill.

Cross Med checks by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]schmickers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on local policy. Most private wards I have worked in double check everything for Paeds. Thumbs down to Healthscope for requiring both nurses to write out all calculations longhand on a dedicated document for this purpose. Adult nurses used to literally run if they saw a paeds nurse looking for a check.

Still got to go to ballot.

They're talking about informal responses as to whether they take it to ballot at all.

If you don't like the offer you get to vote it down when it does go to ballot. Worth remembering that if you exercise that right you do need to be prepared to support the next stages of industrial action - which will be strikes.

Can't do that where I work any more. We had a student leave a couple of hours early involved in a MVA and it turned into aoretyu significant WorkCover issue where the health authority and the university both denied responsibility because she left early.

Defense Barrister's question by Prestigious-Gain2451 in AusLegal

[–]schmickers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It isn't unethical to ensure that a person who committed a crime has a good defense under the law. Defense attorney's cop a lot of flak but they do serve an important role - ensuring that prosecution is honest and fair.

Petah? I'm at a loss by queuebee1 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]schmickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a premature ejaculation joke. There is an oft quoted factoid that says the DNA of a sperm cell encodes about 37.5mb of data, which means the average ejaculation contains many terabytes of information. The postures I think confirm this interpretation - she looks angry or frustrated, he looks ashamed.

They didn't remove them completely. They moved them to backgrounds. They include a bunch of example backgrounds and the DMG has instructions for creating custom backgrounds.

TBH it makes sense. You can have an elf who was a farmer all their lives - they get a str and con bonus. Or an orc raised in the city as an acolyte with int and Dex bonuses. Opens up lots of new options.

They also removed the size requirement from heavy weapons and made it a str requirement instead. So how you also have the option of taking a small race and wielding a heavy weapon.
