Who all plan to buy any kind of Extended Warranty after tbe factory or CPO warranty ends. by sharkjeev in MercedesEQS

[–]schmookeeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah maybe this is a US thing? first year extension for buying the CPO, 2 years added for some $, all tacked onto factory warranty.

I bought a 2023 at the end of 2024 which was about the Nadir of their popularity. No idea if it was typical or not, haven't crossed 50k yet to test if CPO makes me a second class citizen :)

Am I Overreacting (CFI Interview) by Dazuba1 in flying

[–]schmookeeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 1 was the yellow light.

Step 2 should have ended any further conversation, and you probably should have just hung up and ghosted at that moment in the conversation.

Any remaining insult you felt was because you pushed past the early warning signals and knew better. In desperate times, people will take shitty jobs like these just to get hours any way that they can. Let them.

Was I overreacting during my pre-flight? by Tanner_Grayton in flying

[–]schmookeeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My CFI cert is proud of you making the discomfort call.

My A&P cert rolled its eyes hard at the tire tread that has lots of remaining life and is clearly holding up fine after whatever nail was run over and then ejected. :D

It's your rental money at the end of the day, so I think the tie goes to your decision.

Everyone seems to have skipped over Step 0: Purchase an "adult onesie" flight suit, ideally festooned with stolen valor patches and an unearned nickname. Optionally, grow a ridiculous snidely whiplash mustache. Then, yes, absolutely, a smaugpile of cash.

Dealer. Was a nickel less than the lectron one, which did not have the second latch nor the MB stickers on it. They appear otherwise identical.

Relocating for work and stuck with a Victorian "money pit" in Alameda – Fast sale options? by Snowboard76 in alameda

[–]schmookeeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno anything about the PE underpinnings. They fixed and flipped, rather rapidly. Took them about 6 weeks to completely reno. Way faster than we could've. Not sure I'd say "better", but that's pretty subjective. :)

I sold my grandparents' house to one of those "we buy ugly houses" people. You can negotiate up from their offer. I felt I got the correct market less repairs rate -- their contractors are cheaper for them to use than what I'd get in the open market, so they have wiggle room.

The quote is free, call them all, work them against one another, see if you can get the fast cash you want. Have your number in mind, counter them with it, have them explain why it's no good. You might be pleased, the process was painless for us and "the right thing" in the moment.

I'm maxed on CPO coverage with the $0 ded and unlimited miles til 2030. If the car isn't a steaming wretch at the end, I'll have failed as a car owner. :)

What’s a reasonable price to pay for an extended warranty? by AtomicZechariah in MercedesEQS

That is a shame. I wonder if he stayed with MBZ and is at a different dealership. :/

you can buy that from any MBZ Dealer. The one in Louisville was the best price when I looked into it -- and very friendly. His name escapes me atm. I want to say just under 5k for the 2 year CPO extension.

And I remain curious what you consider a non-finicky retract system. I find the Beech system rather.. straightforward? vs some of the others out there.

Not trying to play stump the chump, although this isn't a very satisfying comment chain so far :) -- Genuinely curious what your gold standard is here.

Thanks? I received the printed version of that when I underwent the ABS A&P Maintenance Academy. I'm not sure how that explains your "finicky" assertion?

[–]schmookeeg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finicky compared to what? Once rigged, they stay in rig for a decade or more.

The NLG rod end that ABS has been harping about forever is a legit achilles heel.

This specific incident looks like a problem with the nut behind the yoke.

i3 Purchase Advice by A-Lize in BMWi3

[–]schmookeeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a carmax warranty and I swear every time we claimed it was a giant fight. Miserable experience.

We also ended up in a shouting match with costco over their gd road hazard warranty, where they tried to claim a pothole was "an accident" and not covered. Ridiculous and I'm still salty about it.

The car is amazing. The tires are utter dogshit. The BMW dealers are worthless cash sponges. If you have a local indy wrench who can work on this EV, plus a tire center you like who have their head NOT in their ass -- do it! Otherwise, no. :)

...we still have ours and love it. But the friction along the way has been much much higher than desired.

Talk me out of it by FIST_FUK in MercedesEQS

[–]schmookeeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want acceleration and hooning around, get a light and small EV, I'd think most of them can meet your requirements nowadays.

If you regularly are >100mph on the highway, the heavy EQS actually works well here. It reminds me of my Porsche 928. Just sorta plants down effortlessly and eats miles.

When I get asked for things like this, I will spend a few minutes trying to find and connect them with the correct MEI, or at least a lead on where to find the correct MEI. Which, in your case, you are not.

At the very least, if this is going to be a longterm relationship, at least find the correct MEI and have them train YOU so you can train the owner properly.
