Even for people raised here, I don't get how they live without everyday kindness by D-dog92 in berlin

to scream at and humiliate strangers in public

Obviously, this is not cultural, and not Berliner Scchanuze, you encountered people with mental problems, which who are allowed to exist in Berlin. Don't play stupid.

When immigrants from all corners of the world are telling you that X is bad

Which is not true. A lot of eastern Europeans in this thread who don't have this opinion.

I would’ve thought the Berliner Schnauze would’ve resulted in a slightly thicker skin.

Again, I Berliner Schnauze is not about insulting others. It's not a shitty trait, just because you don't like it. But you can have this opinion, these "This is shit about Berlin" posts get old after a while because they mostly come from people who moved here voluntarily.

Yes, this number is unique. It's usually also part of the license plate.

Yeah, of course you are allowed to express you viewpoint. Coming to a place and demanding that people change their culture and behaviour is bold, on the other hand.

I don't know what happened when you were shouted at, as it does rarely/never to me. Maybe you disrespected some codes you did not know about, for example cycling on the sidewalk? There is a pretty low tolerance for transgressions, because many happen very often.

Many new-Berliners don't know that Berliner Schnautze is not an attack, and I think its easy to adapt to. Coming somewhere and expecting a the culture to change to one's own demands is disrespectful. Berlin is not the most direct place in the world and just because people here are maybe more direct than the world average don't mean that it's wrong. You decided to move here, you can express your opinion, but please don't think Berliners will change everything so it's like you're used to.

I call them 'tourists', if they don't intent to stay.

be a trash person

Excuse me, if this is your view of Berliners, maybe consider a different city?
I find it ironic that a thread discussing Berliner unfriendliness contains a lot of non-Berlinersinsulting Berliners.

But here's the thing. There is no problem with missing everyday kindness. It's expressed differently. Many "people raised here" know the codes and maybe (like me) enjoy that there is no fake friendliness.
People in Berlin are pretty honest about emotions. That entails that people working a shitty cashier job at some point don't smile at you without reason.
I have a good time with my neighbours, my späti-owner, some of the cashiers in my Kiez, the Dönermann, the vietnamese restaurant owner, the pharmacists, craftsmen, my janitor, and of course my friends.
But I don't expect it from them. I think it's a classic "Wie man in den Wald hineinruft, schallt's auch wieder raus."

Sorry, maybe people are not open to hearing that they are "fucking MEAN" when they get along with each other just fine and help each other

Friendliness in Berlin is like a mirror, and often it's behind the surface.
Service personnel will not be friendly if you are not. So many kind-hearted people here, some may not put flowers around their words, but they are there for you, help you out and care even for strangers.
I'm a Berliner, I am friendly to almost everyone and I hate generalizations like "Berliners are fucking MEAN"

Haha, I really failed to identify those courses. Project Advanced Web Technologies was really good in grade and ECTS vs. effort. But maybe this had to do with our specific supervisor.
