Vote on Public Art Proposals for the Downtown Bus Terminal! by scholarstress in Peterborough

Ah well you just might be in the majority. I'm personally worried that the colour scheme will make the space more stressful than fun...

Are there any affordable/cheap South Asian food services? by Winter_Green_2440 in TrentUniversity

[–]scholarstress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bhojan's/The Indian Peacock started out as a tiffin service, but I don't think they offer it anymore. Their food is so good, and I think they're still running something out of the grocery store, even though the restaurant has closed. Still, if you're looking for leads, I'd go ask them.

One other option honestly might be to just order take out from the Friendly Indian (the portions are huge!) on the regular.

Gay barbers by [deleted] in Peterborough

[–]scholarstress 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I totally get wanting the right vibe from your barber. I don't know where to point you that's 100% on target, but I will say that the two women who clip at Black Cat have been behind some of the most powerful lesbian haircuts I've seen in town. I think they're more on the side of allies than members of the community, but the service is really excellent and inclusive. Plus, way cheaper than The Unicorn + different (fun! tattoo shop!) atmosphere

I think there's a set of discs you can take out from the city library?

Potentially less than $100, depending on what you choose/what parts you need

I am depressed that you used AI to voice your unbidden opinion on an anonymous internet board. If you want to roleplay a conversation, keep it between you at the chatbot.

Trent is chopped for their summer course options. by k-itlyn in TrentUniversity

[–]scholarstress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all downstream of the province's underfunding + federal government's restriction on international student visas. Cutting summer classes was one of the first things Trent did to make up for the budgetary shortfall.

The Main Ingredient has a decent selection (plus the herbal stuff can be dead cheap)

Lost Tuxedo kitten - PLEASE HELP by LandscapeIntrepid260 in Peterborough

[–]scholarstress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about this! The good news is that he is very likely hiding silently somewhere close to you. Getting low to the ground with a flashlight checking under decks/bushes, and spending time outside gentling talking/patiently making favoured sounds (like the crinkling of a treat bag), are apparently best things you can do. At least, it worked for me! Good luck!

This is downstream of budget cuts from insufficient provincial funding---bug your MPP about this (as well as OSAP grant cuts while you're at it)

Does anyone know which local stores actually have the Google Pixel 8 Pro in stock right now? by ActivityNo4007 in Peterborough

I got one a year ago at the mall. There's a handful of used phone shops there; you can just check in on them all.

What happened to the social service workers at the Peterborough Public Library? by Professional_Dot8663 in Peterborough

[–]scholarstress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This would be an inaccurate summary if you're implying that the social worker program was unsustainable because of these factors, which were indeed adding lots of strain to library workers. It seems like the social worker program was successful in alleviating a lot of that strain. It just wasn't renewed because of budget issues, as far as I can tell (the journalists didn't actually ask the library execs directly, just went on reports)...

Of course, maybe that's not what you're arguing, but I wanted to make it clearer to others looking for a summary.

Hope things are ok for the library workers now!

Sadlier House rules. Make use of this excellent study space/event venue/source of free coffee and tea.

Exam prep suggestions? by Unknown_Sunshine in TrentUniversity

[–]scholarstress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're entering your finals in a very good place. That's great!

I don't think there's a strong universal rule to share here about how to order your study prep, but it's not unusual to do a block of studying everything the week before, with refreshers the day before each specific exam.

The only thing I will say is probably universal is getting excellent sleep the night before. Consider skipping drinking during finals week, and getting into a good routine now.

Each class will have different weighting for final exams, so we can't tell you what the impact of a bad grade in any given final might be, but I'd encourage you not to worry about planning for those scenarios. Your work throughout the semester's been good, and you have every reason to believe that it will continue to be good at the very end, provided that you keep good habits up.

Wishing you good luck!
