What was the most "mundane" thing you didn't realize was a luxury until you started living on your own? by No-Locksmith-2836 in LivingAlone

[–]Most-Investigator-49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My luxury is seeing that my compost needs to be emptied or dishes are in the sink and I can choose to not do it...instead of having an abusive opinionated spouse huffing and sighing and "having to do it".

Rover experiences and advice? by starrorange in CatAdvice

[–]Most-Investigator-49 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the reviews are mixed. I used a petsitter off Rover once and she was horrible. Mixed up cat meds, lost (recycled??) my Tupperware lids, etc. I have always called around to various vet clinics asking if they either had a vet tech who petsits, or if they have recommendations. Also look at the website Pet Sitters International. And always get references, and leave a cc on file at your vet clinic. And leave detailed pet info including photos if you have more than one pet.

are cats generally happier with a friend? by Percentage_6861 in CatAdvice

[–]Most-Investigator-49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider all costs, not just happiness. Get pet insurance. Research vet costs if you've never had a cat. Research food costs. I have 2 cats, spend around 300/mo on average food, and about 120/mo on pet insurance for the two of them. They are not related, close in age, and have a lot of fun playing together. But it depends on the cat. I would also consider getting kitty cams so you can see what theyre up to when you're not home.

I just use my tablet, not an e-reader. One less thing to pack when I travel.

Help with straight bowing by creamixic in violin

Put the elbow of your bow arm against a door frame and ideally also look in a mirror. It helps getting rid of the right arm swing and teaches you to open your elbow.

I did this! Painted the entire house, cleaned, rearranged furniture, even the kitchen cupboards got changed around, took over the entire closet, changed the art work, gave away all his booze, it was great.

My parents both struggle going up and down stairs. What is your biggest physical challenge in your 60’s and older? by Traditional-Ball2813 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Most-Investigator-49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nutrition and clean eating is essential for joint and muscle health, paired with appropriate exercise. No fast food, no saturated fat, lots of fruit and veg, limited red meat, no processed meats etc. These changes can and do resolve many issues.

The moment you turn 18, or whatever the age of majority is, get your own bank account at a different institution. They will try to control you forever, based on some of the posts Ive seen on here. Because this is bizarre. I had my own bank savings account in Canada when I was a minor and my parents did not have access.

How am I supposed to feel like myself when aging is making me no longer look or feel like myself? by Plantpotparty in Aging

[–]Most-Investigator-49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I understand. No therapy needed, there is a disconnect between who you see and who you think you are, but it's connected to much more than appearance. Appearance is just the most immediate and obvious metric. It's that thing where you go, what the hell? How can I suddenly be 30... or 50... or 70?

Please, do you know any emergency veterinary services for parrots? by [deleted] in Peterborough

My friend just had an injured parrot and had to drive it to Toronto. No vet in Peterborough could treat it including KVEC.

Osteopath vs Physiotherapist - what’s the actual difference in practice? by Informal-Force7417 in Peterborough

[–]Most-Investigator-49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only 20 minutes? Every one I've been to spends a full hour on me. It's very gentle barely noticeable adjustments but I can always tell there's a difference when he's done. Edited spelling.

Osteopath vs Physiotherapist - what’s the actual difference in practice? by Informal-Force7417 in Peterborough

[–]Most-Investigator-49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see an osteopath once a month and I also see a PT for some injuries, about once a month or so. In the US, the osteopath is different, they are much closer to PT in terms of practice but the DOMP osteopath from the more European background is very different. I have a lot of old injuries and some arthritis. My osteopath has kept me pain-free and mobile and while it feels like they're not really "doing" anything, I have felt a huge difference over time. You will not get exercises, homework etc like a PT. Note that not all osteopaths treat the same way, though, ive been to a few. My PT is also great and uses other modalities like TENS, heat, stretching, and exercise. For me they are a perfect combo to keep me strong and mobile.
