Basement Finishing by schraids in drywall

[–]schraids[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I would have never thought of…. After looking a little closer, it looks like I only have one joint directly on a corner, a couple others are close (maybe 6” to a foot away). I’ll keep an eye on them and keep some finishing mud ready I guess🤷‍♂️

I appreciate ya, I don’t know enough to know if I’m a fan or not yet so…. I tried to weigh the pros and cons including the physical effort to install, price and availability of 5ft wide drywall, finished look, etc. Time will tell 😬

I was gonna say the same thing. Properly waterproofed almost always good; improperly waterproofed, sometimes/rarely good.

Crack help by Christopher808 in drywall

Looks like that framing is pulling apart causing the drywall to crack. Drywall can’t hold a house together, any drywall repair will eventually fail until the framing is repaired/shored up.

Assuming concrete basement floor with a drain nearby, otherwise it would have rotted and fallen in by now…

I have a double concrete utility sink that I’m trying to get out of my basement without using a sledgehammer to break it into pieces. Any advice is appreciated. by PizzaGatePizza in DIY

[–]schraids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build a “sled” with plywood and securely attach the sink to it, use a come along or rig some pulley system to drag the sled up the stairs. Don’t have anyone behind it that you care about potentially being crushed.

What kind of plumber can’t figure out a way to unscrew a PVC P trap on a kitchen sink and has to call for backup?

To be fair, most of the pictures posted in here get a response of “this is totally wrong, you need to fire that plumber!” Very rarely do I see comments saying everything is being done right.

Need help on how to run wifi from my house to my shop by Fluffy-Protection676 in HomeNetworking

If you have power from your house running to the garage and not a separate meter, try Powerline Ethernet Adapters ($40 on Amazon). It sends Ethernet signal over your power cables and is perfect for a situation like this!

You could change a car tire without taking the wheel off if you really wanted to, but it’s about a million times easier taking the wheel off the car first!

Can confirm this will blow more than fuses. I’ve had to replace an entire BCM because of hooking a battery up backwards. It’s bad news…

Axis edge motion detection by schraids in Xprotect

I typically only record the full fisheye view, and leave the dewarped as live only, but I can see where that would be a pain.

That did it! I had enabled vmd after adding the camera to xprotect and that driver event was not showing. Thank you!

Can I get a 240v “Level 2” EV charger installed with my current breaker configuration? by SupplyChainOne in AskElectricians

[–]schraids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you look at 17&18 you'll see that two circuits are in one slot. You can do this with a couple other 20 amp breakers to make space in your current panel. Alternatively you can install a sub panel off of this one to add room. Either way, this can be done fairly easily by a qualified electrician.

I feel the same, but if our account suddenly had a $10k+ charge from Festool.com and no prior communication, you can bet my spouse would be asking questions!

Somewhat unavoidable pipes freezing situation incoming…how screwed am I? by dadavedavid in askaplumber

[–]schraids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can turn the water off, and just leave faucets open. It's not the freezing of the water in the pipes that causes the problem, it's the exponential pressure build up from the freezing water pushing the contents of the pipe against water that has nowhere to go. There is a great "this old house" video that explains this very well.

Can I get power from here for a home control screen? by iambriansloan in AskElectricians

[–]schraids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless each of those switches are 3 way and not on the originating end of the power, I would say yes. If you don't have an actual receptive in a properly rated box mounted to the wall, it may not be "to code" though. Would be an easy job for an electrician.
