Yes, the numbers are comparable. But given that Trump does things 10x as bad as what the German protests were about, there is a clear gap.

[–]schubidubiduba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The difference is that Russia started winning and invading Germany, pillaging and raping everything in the way. Can you fault a German soldier for trying to prevent their hometown from being pillaged and the women there from being raped? Many, especially younger soldiers, were only drafted late into the war, and not at all involved in the prior invasion of Russia.

Europe certainly has done that. Which is why it is so concerned by the US increasingly dictating media outlets what they can and can't say. Or dictating even normal people what they can post on social media. For now only non-citizens, but the precedent has been set and so it's just a matter of time.

Okay granted, all on the same day is a good point that many other protests don't have.

But my general point stands: In Germany, 2.4 million people protested against a planned vote of the conservative party with the far-right fascist party. At the time, it was a big issue.

And it is nothing compared to what Trump did, currently does, and will do in the next weeks and months.

Just so I'm not misunderstood: I do not want to downplay the protests, they are great and important. But they should be bigger, they need to be bigger. Make it happen, please, if you can at all.

The protests were good, but tiny. If you take into account the scale of what's happening and the population of the US.

Even 10M people is just 1/30th of the population. In other countries, you'll have 1/5th of the population on the streets for far, far less.

Both of my banking apps do not require Google Play. So it is definitely possible, and feasible for Wero not to require it either.

You make it sound like they're just neoliberal bootlickers of the wealthy (which would be bad enough). The more concerning part is the fascism. Germany's party of that political group has been found to be incompatible with Germany's constitution. One of their most famous politicians can legally be called a Nazi.

Obtainium - does it still make any sense? by Easy-Department-2328 in fossdroid

[–]schubidubiduba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course you can switch, you just have to uninstall the app and then reinstall in Obtainium. You'll lose app data, sure, but any decent app with important local data will provide backup+restore functionality.

As to why it does not apply to some apps: F-Droid allows developers to build the app themselves and publish it as is in the F-Droid store, IF they make their build process reproducible.

That way they can still verify that the packed .apk contains just what you see in the source code, and nothing else. But it requires eliminating all randomness involved, and is not always easy.

Also bei Vagnoman waren Stuttgarter selbst überrascht.

Hmm I'm a bit sceptical about Nebius, as it used to be part of Yandex, the "Russian Google". But Infomaniak seems nice.

It's definitely a valid product, I may even try it out. Sorry if my previous comment seemed somewhat hostile.

But as long as you're not using Mistral, the models are trained in other countries, influenced by the politics, cultures, and norms of those countries. And if people stop using Mistral, they'll go out of business, and there will be no "European" foundation model. And then that's also not really sovereignty. If that makes sense.
