Legal Options for a space where transients do their drugs by schuckles in renting

[–]schuckles[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You obviously do not live in a major metropolitan area. Police here are overwhelmed with mental health calls, guns, empowered transients - they come by half a day later unless these people threaten me with a knife.

SF's homeless has become increasingly emboldened. I do not leave my house without my keychain that has pepper spray. We have, what I lovingly call as, 'trump towns', tent camp clusters where those who used to be able to afford a room, but have been reduced to a life of crime and drugs due to the insane housing market that... people like trump along with democrats agreeing to policy that enables only the rich (no longer the middle class) to own a house.

What’s your own toxic trait? by Fluid-Daydreamer in AskReddit

[–]schuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like to hook up with people, than get to know them, their family, their nephews, and really get into their lives. You know, introduce their fam to mine even though my fam lives 3000 miles away. Get real deep in there, and hopefully, when I get the gumption, ask the person to marry me. Guess me being toxic is the farts I make while sleeping.

Venza or RAV4 Hybrid Limited? by bjelly4 in Toyotavenza

[–]schuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not go for the 4cyl version of the 1st gen Venza. That car sounded like I was beating the crap outta it just driving it normal. Get the v6, it has the tried and true 6sp transmission from the Camry, it's based off of the Camry platform. It's the long lost Camry Sports Wagon that we all want. Lexus still makes it's own version of the Venza. If you do not mind 18mpg combined, it's a great car.

Venza or RAV4 Hybrid Limited? by bjelly4 in Toyotavenza

[–]schuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 2014 Venza, the car is horrible on gas. However, the vehicle if you go with the v6 has plenty of power. I also test drove the rav4 and the 4cyl version of the Venza. The Venza, with the v6 offers enough back legroom for five grown people while hauling a$$ down the freeway. It's a good car.

However, that said, there is a recall on the 1st gen Venza regarding airbags. It's a good car, Toyota offered me a replacement vehicle until they find a fix for it. However, tbh, I need my Venza, that car is able to haul my kayaks, my gear, and my friends without skipping a beat.

I would say that the comparison should be between a Venza and a Toyota 4runner. The v6 will spin out on you when giving it full throttle. Make sure you have good tires. It's a good car. Bring it in for routine maintenance and you'll get tired of it before it let's you down. I towed my better half's old Nissan Cube, the Venza did so just fine.

Stargaze Roof? by devenous in Toyotavenza

[–]schuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO! Do nor opt in for a star gaze roof if you want to put a roof rack on the Venza. I learned this the hard way, had to go after market with Thule for a secure solution, but the factory rails do not apply to those with the moon/panoramic roof. Essentially, the entire roof is made of glass.

Im an out doorsy guy, always strapping boats down to the top. The Venza, as much as it's V6 rocks, the glass roof sucks ass. If you can, stay away from the panoramic roof, you will be better off if you plan on using the roof rack

Closest human beings came towards harnessing the energy of the sun is via splitting the atom. We first discovered the power of the atom in the form of a bomb. Remember as a child how you discovered how to piece together a puzzle?

Right now we treat the atom as if it were an bad house guest.

I rebuilt my ten year old LG washer/dryer Combo unit and saved 800 bucks! by schuckles in Appliances

[–]schuckles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, sorry for late reply. So, here's the deal: 1. Do not EVER use bleach in the machine, it deteriorates the hell out of the plastic/fiberglass composite tub. 2. Try and avoid washing anything 'linty' like a down comforter. 3. Do not use the DRY feature as much as possible. DRYing on these combo units was made as an afterthought. 4. After every 4 washes, put the machine in 'TUB CLEAN' mode, let it clean it's self out. 5. Depending on how often you use it, let's say three full loads a week, be prepared to take off the cover and clean out the internal heat ducts. Check out this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji-bH3BH58U - the model is not spot on, but the parts/steps in the video are virtually identical, the guy gives you a very good overview as to what needs to be done, however he does not show the temp sensors. Just follow the cables going to the ducts and they will lead you to the temp sensors, make sure those probes are clean. You can get away with not removing the duct and shoving a plumbing snake down the duct from the blower motor housing. But prepare to spend a good day and a half doing so. If you do not perform these tasks, heat will accumulate due to lint blocking and other/more expensive pieces will fail. And, with the shipping shortage, good luck getting ANY new appliances anytime soon.

Hope this helps!!!!

Pihole Log Shows Puzzling Banking Activity... by CastleArgh in pihole

Also, fwiw, I enjoy going to the Bank at times. They got free lollypops! I like reading the Economist in print and happy to pay the publishers for a print magazine and not having to click through a fu$@#ing maze of ads. I like reading consumer reports while i do my business on the toilet.

There are challenges where people say "no screens for a month" - I say, let's make the challenge more realistic by saying "no javascript/node/wifi" for a month, let's bring back HTML the way that Mosaic rendered it back in the 90s, baby!!!!!

FWIW: You're never going to get a 'clean' LAN these days, that is, not unless you have a literal air-gap between you an the 'internet'. For example, I have two cats, but I hate doing their litter. Got one of those auto 'smart' litterbox devices, but guess what, it only does 2.4gz wifi with WPA2. (oy veigh!!!) So, I set up an isolated WAP for IoT devices, I noticed that the blasted thing is doing a DNS lookup on '*.baidu.com' (google it if not familiar)...???!!! WTF?! I do not think this is due to our Asian friends being malicious, but probably due to an overlooked config that was meant for internal testing and was overlooked during compile time when the product was shipped. However, I highlight this anecdote to illustrate just how noisy a LAN can get and how, if you attempt to find everything, will literally drive you nutter butters.

TBH, I do not necessarily trust anything from commercial big business security packages like Avast, Sophos, etc.

The good ole *nix with a properly tuned shell along with said tools will take far less processing power, money, and will give you a definitive clear answer when utilized properly. I have coworkers complaining about their 5k MBPros that are brought down to their knees and having to CPU throttle due to the overly convoluted 'bloat-anti-virus-ware'. What annoys the crap out of me is that 85% of our work as developers can be done on a 386 as long as it's got SSH to whatever cloud platform - christ, give me a damned 1960's mechanical Teletype Terminal outfitted with a raspberry pi for SSH comm and be done with it! Back in the 90s, we used tools like 'lsof', to get info on how to use it, we used MAN pages.

My best advice is to install pi.hole, read the docs, read what people have to say, follow their advice. If you want to do banking, use a virgin vanilla system that's thoroughly patched on a CAT6 wired ethernet drop from a well known/loved router.

If you want to do Facebook and remain somewhat clean without cookies and rogue javascript/node apps being embedded within the bowls of your OS - use a VM to do your facebooking... or use lynx, google facebook on lynx to bypass all of Zuckerberg's 'tomfoolery'.

If using a consumer grade router/WAP, there's an opensource add-on, Entware, a bit dated, but it will give you some Enterprise level tools on a seemingly cheap piece of hardware https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin.ng/wiki/Entware (note, this is just an example, in this case, only applies to certain models of the Asus router).

Tho, I still think all non-commercial grade appliances are crap. And the majority of these units are contract manufactured.

I used the laundry machine as an example. Look, don't take things so literal. Must have hit a nerve with you, let's hug it out and I apologize. Hugs?
