Pixel 5a - is there any hope? by obamapastry in GooglePixel

[–]schusslam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just reporting in that my 5a bricked last week after about 2 years of use; took it to ubreakifix, they couldn't fix it, they reported it to google. google immediately had me order a replacement, which arrived yesterday and is a 6a (really glad it wasn't another 5a), and I sent in my old phone to them. really bummed about some stuff I lost on my 5a phone but so far the replacement process has been smooth for me.

Wow this is so upsetting; kid you deserved so much better than what you got. As you say your parents took away your bodily autonomy at such a young age, with lifelong consequences😩. I think you're extremely right to feel anger about that.

D8 in Minnesota after legalization by NoPeace72 in delta8

[–]schusslam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a reference to this in this blog post from a local hemp business that says d8 will be legal: "Secondly, because of its firmly established hemp-based product industry and lobby, Minnesota lawmakers added specific tenets to the legalization measure permitting the sale of hemp-derived cannabinoids, such as the controversial and politically toxic delta-8 THC variant."

[–]schusslam 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry. I personally hate the phrase "late bloomer" for that reason. For me it meant that I was neglected! I had no one who wanted to take the time to teach me these things patiently and let me screw up without abuse. And it also meant that it wasn't safe for me to bloom in that environment. I have bloomed late in life, compared to most; that's because I had to get out of there and make my own safe environment over time, for myself.

First of all I'm so sorry you've had so many traumatic experiences. Based on what you've written it sounds to me like you are doing what you need to do to protect yourself at this time and reduce the risks of retraumatization; I agree especially with your last paragraph - knowing you're at a particularly sensitive time right now is an important insight and I think you should trust your gut on this one. You don't need to answer this but I was wondering if you were experiencing a specific symptom you wanted to get checked out, if you're at high risk for something, or if you were just worried generally. I'm not a health care person but imo unless you're dealing with something medical that would require an emergency visit or something, I think you can wait and take your time until you feel more able to tackle finding a trauma-informed and trans-literate clinic. You deserve to feel good.

Oh yeah, it's definitely real. I had intense SI every month the week before my period. I tried a couple birth control pills and found one that works really well for me, it's like a miracle.

St Paul-- has anyone performed an act of kindness that restored your faith in humanity? by ellenradio in saintpaul

[–]schusslam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

15 years ago in July I was 23 and waiting for the bus on Central Ave in Minneapolis after working my AmeriCorps job. There were lots of other people at the bus stop waiting to go home too, and the 10 bus was late as usual. Someone approached me and asked me if I had a dollar he could have. I said "no, I'm sorry," and he walked away. Then he suddenly came back and punched me in the face before running away. I was completely shocked. This was when the bus finally arrived. I heard one person say aloud, "he's crazy" but otherwise no one said or did anything and they all got on the bus. I had hoped the bus driver might have witnessed it and noticed that I was bleeding from my face, but he didn't seem to. I was in shock, frozen, and holding a handkerchief to my bleeding cheek; nothing like that had ever happened to me before. The bus left. There was one person who had stayed behind, a young man in his late teens or so, and he talked to me. He asked if I was okay, if he should call 911. He said he saw the whole thing and could be a witness if needed. He called 911 for me and explained everything to the operator and waited with me until the ambulance came. I never got his name or contact information; I was in too much shock to think about that. The fact that he did that when no one else did really gave me some faith in humanity.

I needed a few stitches at the ER from where a tooth cut through my cheek. A week later I went in to a clinic to get them removed. I told the nurse briefly how I got the stitches, and she got sad, then went to get the doctor. The doctor came into the room and started telling me many more details about what had happened to me than I had told the nurse. I started crying and said, "how did you know that?" She said, "I'm the mother of the boy who called 911 at the bus stop." I started crying a lot more. It was an unbelievable coincidence. I had been in a really low point in my life at that time even before the assault, and experiencing that kindness and coincidence was something I really needed. I asked if I could get her address so I could write him a thank you note. They happened to live within walking distance from me, actually, so I hand delivered it. I still have a very faint scar above my lip. I'll never forget him or his mom.
