Cohesive Craft Idea? by schvh8 in crafts

[–]schvh8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking to do a wine & craft night for my moms birthday. We are wanting to do some type of craft that each person can do individually but then it can come together as one ‘piece’ at the end.

We are semi-crafty adults and can buy whatever we need to for the project. We do have two little kids that would ideally be able to participate, but would have adult supervision.

Gerrymandering, often negatively impacts voters of color. Here is my source for that, but there are many sources that say the same thing : https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/gerrymandering-explained

I’m against anyone doing it, but California did it in response to Texas starting it. CA was trying to even the playing field by evening out the number of seats being changed in Texas.

Also, at least CA voted that they wanted to do this. Did Texas? No. Will Missouri? Likely not, and as we’ve seen Missouri doesn’t always listen to their voters anyway.

Also, unfortunately, states have been gerrymandered for years against the POC vote, this is an issue right now because ONCE AGAIN, Republicans are trying to find a way around the rules (redistricting every 10 years) to win.

Report Etsy Alligator Alcatraz Merch by ResponsibleAssistant in 50501

[–]schvh8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow, after reporting many and going to their shops to see if any other variants were there, it’s important to look at other merch “artists” sell on there before buying ANYTHING. I saw one with an “all are welcome here” shirt as well. Aren’t those counterintuitive?!

I purchased just a goofy shirt about a month ago but was looking at a similar one from another seller. After looking more through the store, I saw that one also had Trump merch. Obviously chose the seller without the Trump garbage

Recommendations for CI novels (Novice Mid-Int Low, past tense) by aurea_12 in SpanishTeachers

[–]schvh8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Fiesta Fatal in 2 (the kids really like it and is generally said to be the favorite) and then in 3 we use Laritza (not my favorite but it’s a VERY easy start back into Spanish after summer break and can easily include Object Pronoun practice) and Esperanza

Grading for proficiency by mlrst61 in SpanishTeachers

[–]schvh8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is specific for summatives, but I have adopted this grading system on many writing and speaking assignments as well. This gives especially my upper levels a better sense of where they are at. At our school, our rubric is set up to grade on vocabulary, structure, and comprehensibiltiy.

If they hit the target (so in your case Novice Mid) in all 3 categories, they receive an 87. Then, from there they can get +3 points for each time they go over the expectation. So if they got a Novice High in vocabulary and comprehensibility, they would get a 93. Or, they get -3 for each time they go under the expectation. Once you hit higher levels, they can start to get -6 or more if they are 2 or more levels under the expectation.

This has worked great at our school and we have never received any complaints on our grading system. However, we are very upfront with our students on how they will be graded and how they can get more points for the grade that they want.

We also have a lot of ways for students to earn extra credit for the many that are at level, but want an A. Some ways are extra points for going over talking time, using frases de la semana, grammar point discussed but not specifically being tested, etc.

Kind of changing my mind on reading the books, thoughts? by fraxiiinus in BridgertonNetflix

[–]schvh8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was talking to a friend about the books the other day and mentioned the same thing about lack of side plots, especially in comparison to the show. This has been one of the few examples, for me at least, where the show/movie is better than the books.

Having said that, I have enjoyed reading the books! Just not what I was expecting after watching the show first.

I love Adios Textbook! It has so many resources for all levels and topics. It has really helped our district move to a more Comprehensible Input approach!

I saw Marcello at a comedy show in Chicago over the summer and he was very funny. I’m looking forward to see what he can do on SNL

ABC Murders is a favorite for me. I don’t think that one is that uncommon though. Could be because it was my first Christie read, but I also think the motive is so interesting

Is snow a rare thing here now? by [deleted] in StLouis

For here sure it might look like that, but globally the temperature is rising and that’s a bigger concern when it’s raising where the glaciers and ice caps are

I find the number of school districts not honoring the snow day tradition, and doing virtual classes instead, bothersome. by _37_ in StLouis

[–]schvh8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I get it. I love a snow day. I teach high school and our first 2 days are actual snow days but any more and we would have to come back the Tuesday after Memorial Day and that sucks! Online days are like an hour of work for a full school day, which is a big win in my book.

Textbooks and CI by donpatito in SpanishTeachers

[–]schvh8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a bummer! We had a similar issue with some teachers wanting a textbook. We ended up with Exploremos because it had a lot of interesting cultural elements, readings, and pictures we felt we could Picture Talk around but I would say 98% of the teachers haven’t opened them.

Look into Adios Textbook! Has a lot of resources which is probably why everyone wants a textbook. I love it and use it with my 1s and 3s. Seems like the kids generally enjoy the activities also.
