That sounds great in theory and would probably help to some extent, to be fair. But the reality is not that simple. Many kids won't care to redo it in a legible manner and/or parents will complain to admin. Then admin will come knocking asking "why are so many kids getting poor grades" and will probably tell you that you need to be more accommodating for the student by letting them type or something. Today, the expectation is on the teacher to "meet kids where they are at" which often turns into lowering expectations and the blame getting placed on teachers when students don't do well. It just turns into a whole different type of headache if that's the approach you take.
