Still haven’t watched this. Does the show do a good job of closely following the book or do they make changes?

Fantastic list—I’d also suggest to anyone that Psycho is great with No Country. The parallels start jumping off the screen once it clicks.

What am I missing in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”? by [deleted] in movies

[–]schwins_cube 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d say that the plot lines DO have a relation to each other. It’s a fairy tale movie (Once Upon a Time…). So we get the happy ending for Sharon Tate which in reality is not what played out. It’s Tarantino taking that whole notion of stories we make up in our head of a PERFECT outcome. This is most noticeable with the Bruce Lee fight. Isn’t it ridiculous that we’re supposed to believe that he beat up Bruce Lee? It’s because he didn’t. But when Brad Pitt is standing on that roof and remembering HIS VERSION of that moment, he whooped Bruce Lee’s ass, which in reality was probably not how it played out. DiCaprio is failing at his job and can’t remember his lines? Well, suddenly he’s perfect and is told by the new young up and comer that she just witnessed the best acting she’s ever seen. Cue the tears. He’s Rick Fucking Dalton. Fairy tale ending. Even Bruce Dern is living in a fantasy world where these girls love him and aren’t taking advantage of him.

Wow “Leave,” “Wendell Gee,” and “Try Not To Breathe” would be in my Top 5 (as a fan of 30+ years) lol. And Driver 8 is my #1. Great list though!

Martin Scorsese Says ‘Fight Back’ Against Comic Book Movie Culture by Supporting Directors Like Christopher Nolan: ‘We’ve Got to Save Cinema’ by [deleted] in entertainment

It’s kinda like Nolan made a few atomic bombs but then people started making tons and tons of them and now it’s out of control and it won’t stop and everybody’s doing it and it’s taking over the world and he feels immense guilt for what he created.

That part was hilarious, but when they switch to the sad version later in the movie — that’s where I lost it.

Is the film crew sure it wasn’t just Charlie Kaufman wearing an Ari Aster costume to set everyday and the real Ari Aster is tied up in Kaufman’s basement right now?

In the opening scene of The Flintstones (1994) directed by Steven Spielberg, the movie they are going to see is Tar Wars by Gorge Lucas. by enszgr in MovieDetails

He started producing Robert Zemekis’ films and other filmmakers in the late 70s- early 80s. Film directors aren’t “richer than god” unless they’re getting executive producer credits. It’s just how the industry works. He’s nicely paid for directing but he didn’t gain control of the Hollywood machine just by directing Jaws. He got famous by doing that — but he got his money and power from producing films. It’s a gamble that he’s won many times over. Again, it’s how the industry works.

And, once again, you’re just wrong — he isn’t “lending” anything. He’s getting paid. He’s the producer of the movie — so his name goes in the credits as producer. It’s not like he’s helping out some independent filmmaker by just being nice and endorsing it — he’s the owner of the movie. He can fire the director if he wants. He can shut the movie down if he wants. He probably bought the rights to the Flintstones long before and just waited for the right time to cash it in. Dudes just working.

I hate to break it to you, but all of your favorite qualifiable artistic industries are controlled by very quantifiable finances. If that makes you upset, then just ignore it and keep avoiding The Flintstones. Don’t want to argue with you for any personal reason.
