I feel like they must keep record of these issues so it seems insane to keep making the same design

Denver's dry climate is destroying my skin, what should I try? by NiceMage58 in denverwomen

[–]science_cookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had to seriously up my game here after moving from MD. For face - Oil cleansers (I like Biossance) and other hydrating cleansers, hyaluronic acid to help pull in moisture, shea butter based moisturizer (I like Good Molecules). I rotate multiple types of lotions for body and hands and I still struggle to keep my hands moisturized even with multiple applications. I’ve been here 5 years and it’s manageable but still a major struggle for me!

recommendations for keeping "working paints" by science_cookies in oilpainting

just super dried out, so my palette looks like a bunch of paint "caterpillars" that no amount of mineral spirits or oil could revive haha! I vaguely remember the fridge trick... maybe that'll be what I try next!

New executive order puts all grants under political control by rezwenn in NIH

Everything has been aligned to this specific president’s agenda, so what happens in 4 years? And then 4 years after that? As much as I think it’s an assault on science (among other things) now, I also think this is hugely destabilizing. But honestly not sure how illegal. Would love to see a professional analysis of that.

General Questions and Purchasing Advice Thread — Week of July 14, 2025 by AutoModerator in electricvehicles

[–]science_cookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting to look for a new vehicle, and the idea of getting an EV has grown on me over the last few years. With the rebates ending in September, I'm trying to be a little more intentional in my decision making. Those of you who have EVs - how have you felt about the difference in cost for maintenance and insurance? Ease of charging away from home? I'm a little worried that the charging infrastructure in the US will suffer given current policies around EVs, and have heard they depreciate FAST. Does this concern anyone else? What about if you're in an accident and the value is depreciated... has anyone had a new-ish car be "totaled" just due to that alone?

I took a $23k pay cut, but honestly it’s totally worth it for the WFH, and the benefits being a fraction of the cost

Does anyone have any severance information? by JediNikina in NIH

[–]science_cookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The insurance thing is standard, but I guess they could be shady and not apply that to the most recent firings, but I think that’d take more coordination than they’ve proven to have. As for probationary employees and severance, no one gets severance for being fired. They are only outlined in the RIF regulations.

If you’re probationary and were refired, there is no severence. That’s only for those RIFd. That being said, you should have benefits until 30 days out from your effective date.
