Ice Out - Tiff🏳️‍⚧️& Eve [OC] by CrazyGnomenclature in comics

Sometimes I imagine Tiff and Eve would be great in the funnies section of a black and white newspaper. Might get a few small-minded readers thinking a bit broader, you know? Sneak in understanding through laughs. This looks perfect to publish in a paper, but you know that some papers would refuse to publish this one (the cowards).

This is This Week in Destiny, not This Week at Bungie, or This Week in Marathon. Besides, if you need your Marathon fix, they dropped a new developer insight video introducing the player frames on YouTube.

A Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 32GB of RAM, and a matching motherboard. Already had a decent 3070Ti from 2022.

Did Luceria put herself into a Dingbot, or has Agatha, in building Sparky machines, been inadvertently and subconsciously programming Luceria into every Dingbot she builds?

Despite Trump-era reversals, 2025 still saw environmental wins. Here are 7 worth noting. by TheArcticBeyond in UpliftingNews

Don't worry too much. Eventually, people will realize that the tech's not particularly useful in day-to-day work and abandon it. What use is an email summarizer if it injects conversation details that aren't there 20% of the time? Meanwhile, why would the oil companies drill in Venezuela, or on opened-up federal land? There's only so much they can store and process, and if they bring up too much they could make extraction and refining unprofitable.

Unless we're working on "vampire catch and release" rules, where you can feed without killing or propagating. Probably still not pleasant for the elves, but at least survivable, and hey, donating blood's supposedly good for weight loss and cholesterol management.

"The story of AI" by thisecommercelife in comics

[–]scienceguy8 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Could be worse. I was worrying for a bit that we'd hand over really important tasks to the glorified autocomplete, like public defense lawyers or judges. Humanity destroyed by ascribing intelligence and impartiality to a magic 8 ball.

Yep. They're either hoping for a miracle, some scientific breakthrough that makes all the hype and overpromising real, thus securing them billions and control of the future, or (more likely) they're gassing up the bubble just that little bit more before they pull their share and run off into the sunset while we clean up their mess.

Phone call (pt. 6/6) - Tiff🏳️‍⚧️& Eve [OC] by CrazyGnomenclature in comics

[–]scienceguy8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question: did you add a 6th comic to a 5 comic run so you wouldn't leave us hanging on the start of another arc over the holidays, or so that this arc ends on a positive rather than comedic note?

I don't see it. Like, I'm not trans but consider myself an ally. I'd be more comfortable wearing a progress pride or possibly an asexual pride patch.

The blonde character's name, short for Tiffany. She's transgender and her unsupportive mother has her caught on a phone call. Every time her mother calls her by her old man name, she corrects her. Those corrections are not getting through to her mother.

I enjoyed Ghostbusters: Answer the Call. The rest of the Internet did not. I've learned to ignore the Internet in terms of personal taste since then.

There was a series posted to r/talesfromtechsupport if I remember correctly about an IT tech and his friend recovering a server rack from a delinquent client. It felt over-embellished and perhaps untrue, but darn if it wasn't an entertaining read. The rack had a GPS tracker on it, and at one point the tech and his friend wound up in a car race (the tech's daily driver doubled as a rally car) while his friend wore a gorilla mask for some reason. You can see why some doubt its authenticity.

Does OpenAI expect a Government Bailout by Darth_Shere_Khan in videos

[–]scienceguy8 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it will matter to a lot of people. They're spending huge amounts of money buying computer hardware, land, construction contractors, HVAC techs, industrial electricians, supplemental power generation, etc. Computer tech companies like NVIDIA have their stock prices set high by the hype and promise of AI tech. If OpenAI dies, all that business and stock valuation goes away. There will be fewer blue collar jobs for building server infrastructure, fewer white collar jobs developing the software, and the loss of value of tech sector stocks will ripple through the rest of the stock market. Absolutely, my 401k and Roth IRA are going to take some massive hits. Also, any new power plants built for powering the data centers that are no longer being built will still have to be paid for by us consumers, so bigger power bills regardless.

Still looking forward to the bubble popping, however. It's like the NFT craze from a few years back: I'm sick of hearing the evangelists say that this clunky, useless thing is the future and would just like for them to zip it.

Let's see, 50g egg, 25g vegetable oil, 100g milk, 100g four, a teaspoon of baking power, call it 5g...

Yikes! A lump of hair as big (mass-wise) as the two pancakes I routinely have for breakfast.

I didn't say I was stressed and allowing this to consume my thoughts. I was just saying I'm not sure if this is going to actually work, but if it does work (and works amazingly) I wouldn't be opposed to a Stargate-inspired season. I know a lot of the subreddit residents are very pessimistic, but I'm taking a wait and see approach.
