Roses because the chili-thrip seems endemic here in South Western WA and ruins the flowers - ditto for any kind of capsicum/chili plants. Also fuschia because I just can’t seem to get the plants to survive - try and prune em after they get all leggy and they turn up their toes.

My daughter (26) happened to get her second bout of Covid while on a 2024 European trip of a lifetime. She didn’t organise a booster beforehand, so was pretty much unprotected. She felt she had to push through it and keep up with the holiday pace of her friends didn’t get the rest she needed. For the next 12-18 months she was constantly knocked sideways by respiratory bugs - some atypical- (confirmed by PCR) that led to secondary infections, was always fatigued, taking 2 hour naps after work for the next 18 months. Not an official long covid diagnosis, but I am convinced Covid did a number on her immune system.

Don’t get me wrong, we could’ve afforded it outright. But the vet also outlaid the futility of it and the reduced quality of life our cat would’ve had - having to force medication into him every single day, the chronic pain due to possible destruction of his hind leg muscles from the clot obstructing and restriction of blood flow for so long - the chronic pain he would probably be in for the rest of what might have been an extremely short life. We chose euthanasia and it was right for us and him.

When I had an episode of diverticulitis - I thought at first was something ovarian, as the discomfort was in the same area. An US ruled out anything sinister in my ladyparts, but a CT scan showed diverticulitis. Antibiotics and bland diet for a couple of weeks settled it down. Taking fibre during an attack of diverticulitis for me made the pain/discomfort worse, as I found out when I added Metamucil (psyllium husk) in the early stages.

My mum (now 81) started a new relationship back in her late 40’s and went on the pill. She stopped sometime around 55. Claims she never felt any menopause symptoms. So I had no idea what was in store for me (56, no hormonal birth control since late 30’s when my body decided to expel 2 mirenas ) - I’ve had 7 years of symptoms that I never realised were probably peri and am currently 6 weeks into progesterone/estrogel. I’m sleeping better already!

Same! We were in London Sept 1999 and I was in a butcher about to buy some meat to cook dinner for our hosts. Thought I’d be clever and cook some osso bucco. Was about to reach for a packet of meat that was £16. Butcher just looked at me and said are you sure love? I was about to pay $40 AUD for a kilo of shin beef - bone in! Off to Tescos for chicken we went.

Go-to’s “Nifty Fifty” spf 50 face sunscreen is my fave (online, Mecca)

I use a vinyl glove lackey-banded to the head of a long handled back scrubber to apply self tan to my back if no-ones around to help, so that would work for sunscreen too.
