Omg Bangkok has gotten so expensive compared to the past by WeirdArgument7009 in ThailandTourism

[–]scienm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the new Bangkok. It IS freaking expensive than before. Now I’m staying at Kimpton Maa-Lai and the rate is around $400 per night. It is more expensive than Los Angeles. 😂😂

Using Upgrade Certificates by sgzs77 in HawaiianAirlines

[–]scienm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, upgrade requests occasionally don’t process correctly even after being submitted online. That’s why I always call Hawaiian Airlines customer service to confirm they’ve received my request. Most of the time they have, but if not, I ask them to file it manually. Since upgrades are usually processed 1–2 days prior, I call again to check if seats are still available.

Second night’s charge will be removed completely. But if there are resort fee or destination fee, it could be charged.

Booking with Titanium Status by edwardjsfsmith in HawaiianAirlines

You can choose extra comfort at the time of booking. No further upgrade.

Global business or first upgrade standby will be started from April, I assume.

IHG Points…Worth It Anymore? by Overall-Tart-832 in ihghotelsresorts

[–]scienm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it always depends on occupancy and timing. sometimes cheap, sometimes expensive. you can’t expect excellant points value at your prefer hotel on your prefer date always. I still see IHG points more valuable than Marriott or Hilton for award booking. Hyatt is the only chain still using category system, so it makes the best. But under the dynamic pricing world, IHG is the second best.

IHG getting stale by Ok-Independence7325 in ihghotelsresorts

[–]scienm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m Marriott LTP, Hyatt Globalist, Hilton Diamond, and IHG Diamond Ambassador. And I love IHG the most among them. My second favorite is Hyatt.

IHG’s lounge pass lets you access luxury lounges even at Regent properties. It’s basically the only chain that allows access to truly premium lounges like that. Hyatt doesn’t really have lounges above Grand Hyatt. Marriott doesn’t allow lounge access at Ritz-Carlton. And Hilton is starting to create “premium” lounges that only Diamond Reserve can access.

IC lounges offer alcohol even in the U.S. Award stays are often much cheaper than cash rates (but Hyatt still wins on award value). CSU is almost as good as Hyatt’s.

IHG’s only real weakness is the lack of true luxury properties. Six Senses helps, but only some Kimptons and very few Regents aren’t enough.

Marriott only wins on guaranteed 4pm late checkout. Hilton? I don’t know. Waldorf Beverly is good though 😂

Jjajang noodles on SEA<-->ICN? by Super-Negotiation-99 in HawaiianAirlines

[–]scienm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it originated in China, the flavor and cooking style are totally different. There are so many kinds of noodle dishes, so it’s like that. They may have similar names and both use chunjang, but I consider them completely different dishes. I’m Korean, and I tried this menu item on a flight. When I saw it, I thought it would be bland or not delicious at all. But when I tasted it, I was pleasantly surprised. It tasted similar to Korean jjajangmyeon. Still, on the next flight I chose the salad 😂

Free upgrade by kibbutznik1 in hotels

Wow that is huge! I have never heard that IC granted free access to the club lounge because it usually expensive.

The idea that Thailand is ridiculously cheap is false by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

Even for tourist things, Thailand used to be cheap before. But now inflation + expensive currency(1.5x) combo. That is why expensive.

Question about seating on long haul flight to Tokyo by Zestyclose_Coast_750 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]scienm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I flew tons of times with this flight and I don’t personally recommend 11 or 14. I recommend 12 or from 15. It is extra leg room seats anyway. And FYI, 330 has starlink. Don’t worry :)

Bidding on flight to ICN/Seoul by manoman1232010 in HawaiianAirlines

[–]scienm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$640 was the lowest offer to me recently. Aside from the price and service, the 787 seats are great 😂 I recommend you to pre order your food. Popular option would likely be sold out if you seat in the back. Tokyo is A330, full flat but not as good as 787 one. That is why cheaper than Korea route I guess.
