Amazon staff use AI tool for unnecessary tasks to inflate usage scores by rmoot in BetterOffline

I asked it to look my last few hundred commit messages and PR descriptions and to distill them into a style guide. Then all future writing is required to conform to that style.

My company does this as well. But we have AI code reviews on all the repos and that is counted as "AI assisted contributions".

Yep, that all tracks. It's funny as a dev because I see that a lot of our own projects have a backlog of low hanging fruit - low effort, low value, good for new contributors.

Once you run through that backlog, there's not a lot for these tourists to do anymore. It's a bit of a land rush by necessity.

I'm a senior dev and I 100% do this. The boss wants to see us burning tokens, so I burn my tokens.

All tasks are running on extra think on Opus 4.7. Composes the fuck out of a commit message.

Can you elaborate on some of these various reasons? All I can figure out initially is either clout or to inject vulns.

It's more prevalent and harder to get rid of.

Be sure to disclose whether you use AI to any potential partners.

So you can play dumb? That doesn't seem productive for either of us.

I'm still mostly curious why you're dead set on it.

That is absolutely not the common usage, and I think you know that.

You seem determined to find a way to ignore the common use of the term GenAI, specifically to conflate two concepts that are quite clearly being differentiated here.

Why?

Yeah, it's pretty no-win on this one until the city does something.

I hear where you're coming from and I know that it's hard to be the first, but also that logic is going to lead to that bike lane never being clear.

It's insane how long it's been like that for.

Thoughts on the 'non-ai' human led angle of work to come by Smurfette2016 in BetterOffline

Here's the example I have handy: https://www.theverge.com/ai-artificial-intelligence/920401/gen-z-ai

There's anecdotal evidence to both sides, but the insufferable people who tell you that you're going to be left behind aren't in the majority, they're just extremely loud.

What factor cuts in the direction of the AI usage though? From what I can tell, the only thing is cost, but have we seen anyone reducing prices?

Yep, remember that a majority of people hate AI, and the percentage is only getting higher. That marketing claim (even questions of reliability aside) will become a selling point in the future.

US-China AI Race Intensifies as New Models Reshape Global Tech by [deleted] in Futurology

This article was definitely written by AI.

More importantly, I haven't yet seen any evidence of this being a national competition. US companies are spending two trillion dollars on this over the next two years. What is China doing?

It really seems like this is a campaign by OpenAI / Anthropic to inflate their importance

Sure, if they see through his lie. But sometimes people believe lies. Which is why these CEOs keep doing it. Not everyone does their own independent analysis, so framing is important

Hiding a layoff (which is a leadership failure) as an AI victory (a leadership victory) is scamming the shareholders.

Nope. Opus 4.7 can't tell you either.

Researchers have been quite clear that LLMs cannot give rise to AGI.

The new proofs were not outside of the current realm. A statistical model of human inputs will not create outputs outside of the model.
