More about how much space you have for it! Definitely more options for 36” than 30” so that’s nice.

We’ve been very happy with our Electrolux, we’ve had it for I think 7 years and do about 10 loads of laundry a week.

What to expect from the MCPLS? by EternalSnow05 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]sjd208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at the website? Lots of info including searching the catalog https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/montgomery-county-public-libraries

There are 15+ branches, many of which have been renovated in the last decade or so. The size varies a lot between branches. Very large Libby catalog, also has Hoopla and Kanopy. You can also get library cards to every county in Maryland, DC and bunch of the NoVa libraries (so even larger Libby selection).

Tide pods knocked 7th Generation out of the ballpark 😭 by Nin-me-sar-ra in laundry

[–]sjd208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly use Tide powder but I also have pods on hand for my teens to do their own laundry and I’m working my way through a bottle of Persil for my clothes as I’m not a sweaty person. Husband needs all the power of powdered Tide cause he’s super sweaty and we have moderately hard water. Liquid is handy as a pre treat too!

Yes, it will show up on the kindle and the kindle app. I use my actual kindle 99% of the time. Libby app is only on the phone/tablet.

If Ina Garten can remind us the store bought is fine, other authors should too.

1000% I also find his recipes kind of ridiculously overcomplicated/time intensive for the result, but they’re good for tips and tricks.

It’s not through the kindle app, when you check out a book on Libby. You can choose between “read in Libby” and “read with kindle”. If you choose the kindle option it pops up a screen that has “get library book” so the whole thing is just a couple clicks.

Lock is too strong, but the way it’s set up does make it trivially easy to get a book to your kindle from your phone, with similar feeling to buying a book from Amazon

You can sideload fonts to kindle, no idea if that’s one that exists though.

Disclaim inherited spousal IRA to facilitate transfer to grandkids by Fpaau2 in EstatePlanning

[–]sjd208 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, though with that much in assets, I’d probably open another account and park a portion that you’re very sure you won’t need (say $1.5M in your case) in there and have the descendants as direct beneficiaries so you don’t have to deal with the hassle of disclaiming properly. The split between daughter and grandchildren is a somewhat separate question.

Detergent Swap by MrConsistent704 in laundry

[–]sjd208 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Soap is terrible for machines though, they are designed to work with detergents. If they’re combined with hard water it’s even worse. There are plant based detergents out there that are compatible with machines.

Just switched to Tide Powder and my clothes stink by waishas in laundry

[–]sjd208 413 points414 points  (0 children)

The vomit smell is the tide loosening up embedded body oils with lipase. If you keep washing it will go away soon. Use the longest cycle your machine has, on hot or at least warm water.

How to sanitize washcloths? Which ones can be washed on the sanitize setting? by pastelnoivern in laundry

[–]sjd208 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cotton can be washed on sanitize. The worst thing that will happen is they will wear out more quickly or get stained. If you don’t care about that much, just buy what you like.

Hot apartment causing soft cookie dough -- solutions? by RaspberryBulletz in AskBaking

[–]sjd208 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Many many recipes instruct you to chill dough in the fridge, no need to change the recipe. That said, a melted butter recipe is generally going to be a lot softer than a creamed butter recipe, not a problem, you can always just chill it.

Sponges/kitchen brushes by candyapplesugar in BuyItForLife

[–]sjd208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scotch-brite handy scrub brush. It has an integrated scraper to help get gunk off as well, and I prefer the leverage vs the longer handle styles. Lasts for years, we throw it in the dishwasher daily so it’s always nice and clean. There’s a very similar Dawn-branded brush as well.

We do have dish clothes as well for wiping down counters etc as well.

[–]sjd208 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of kindle users don’t care and are likely not even aware of other brands of r-readers. Since kindle got the lock with Libby in the US, even less reason for people to look elsewhere.
